Overview: Maria, a fearless soldier, and TS-347, a man with superhuman strength, are being pursued by a military cell responsible for scientific experiments that have resulted in a zombie apocalypse.

On the way, they will meet Pedro, a man with few ambitions and a great hangover. Together, they will try to escape to a safe place, but complications will cross their paths in the form of a nuclear bomb.

Blu-ray Verdict: Arriving just as I was looking for something to watch that was so bad it was just so good, Troma’s Mutant Blast: Special Edition [Blu-ray] was suddenly here and turned out to be a quite wondrous, albeit strange European cinematic ride!

Breaking the language-limitation (fortunately they provided subtitles) this was way above the ’70s cartoon-world of Troma so, in all honesty, I’m not all that sure what they did for the film - save for a couple of obvious cameos - perhaps moreover simply distributing and producing the film.

Regardless, the story is, as one would wholly expect, rather disjointed, but it works out well overall as a kind of road movie ie: the brilliant Planet Terror, providing various obstacles instead of just a single monster on the rampage movie.

It also provides plenty of gore! Nothing extremely spectacular, but the sanitized world of Hollywood really could use some advice from these guys for they, as they have been for many decades, are the masters of this type of horror schlock.

The events portrayed are also weird, in a funny way, and the characters don’t lack chemistry, that’s for sure, or charisma for that matter. Yes, Lobster Lad was magnificent, providing Birdemic-like environmentalist monologue while stitching wounds!

Chock full with plenty of action, Mutant Blast, simply put is a simple, yet thoroughly enjoyable ride from start to finish, which features no Hollywood agenda. It just wants to entertain you and provide 83 minutes of sheer escapism. It succeeded for me and I highly expect it to do the very same for you guys also.
