To get back home, they embark on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve. Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative.

4K UHD Blu-ray Verdict: Warner Bros. Entertainment is expanding their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this month with the release of the hotly anticipated A Minecraft Movie (4K Ultra HD + Digital) in the expansive 4K Ultra HD video format this June 24th, 2025.
For my money, this A Minecraft Movie (4K Ultra HD + Digital) sharpness takes a fairly large step forward from others in their 4K Ultra HD catalog and even comes with HDR (High Dynamic Range) for the complete 4K Ultra HD experience, of course.
So, what we have is A Minecraft Movie presented to us as a one-disc with a sheet for a Digital HD Copy. Other stand out points you should know are: Codec: HEVC / H.265, Resolution: Native 4K (2160p), HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10, Aspect ratio: 1.85:1 and Original aspect ratio: 1.85:1.
Featuring Dolby Vision and HDR10 for brighter, deeper, and way more lifelike colors, as with most all 4K UHDs, everything that we watch features these qualities - but somehow, this film gloriously shines within them all.
Noticeably crisp with the overall clarity receiving an obvious boost here on this release, what is more is that it is enjoyably noticeable. For as well as some new nuances to the somewhat drab palette courtesy of Dolby Vision, we also get to witness sudden bright pops of color, which makes the eyes draw in, for sure.
One of those moments - and which has turned out to be the most popular scene in the entire movie, according to online chatter - is the Chicken Jockey boxing ring moment! This scene, where a chicken is riding a zombie, is a reference to a rare occurrence in the game and is considered iconic and humorous by many. But the way it plays out with Jason Momoa as the unwitting victim is just incredibly playful; albeit in a painful way!
As for the audio, well we get the plentiful choice of: English: Dolby Atmos
English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz, 24-bit), English: Dolby Digital 5.1 (448 kbps), Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1 (448 kbps), French: Dolby Digital 5.1 (448 kbps) and Audio descriptive.
Overall, this is a very strong 4K HDR Blu-ray presentation, and, for the most part, the audio track remains fairly similar to its DTS-HD counterpart; with much of the action occupying the surrounds with outstanding directionality and placement where effects flawlessly pan between the sides and rears.
As for the film itself, well, words cannot describe the masterpiece that just blessed my eyes. This movie is one of the greatest achievements in modern film making. With witty phrases such as the aforementioned CHICKEN JOCKEY and even FLINT AND STEEL it just adds that much more to an already engaging and mind-altering story.
Jack Black gave us one of the best portrayals for any protagonist in movie history and will leave you speechless. Jason Momoa delivers one of the best performances for a side character you will ever see having you wishing the movie would never end!
The story encapsulates you from the first few minutes and you never look back. If you thought you’ve seen a masterpiece in storytelling you have not watched this movie yet. The engaging story will leave you emotional and craving for more no matter your age.
The visual effects used in this movie surpass anything I have ever seen. It felt like I was living inside of Minecraft along with Steve while he says RELEASE while water bucket clutching! This movie has absolutely zero flaws outside of the fact it ended! This is truly one of the greatest things to ever be created and I don’t think anything will surpass this.
In closing, Minecraft is chock full of Hess’ strange trademarks such as awful hairdos, silly replacements for swear words, comedically macho characters, odd sentiment towards the retro, a fondness towards Idaho and potatoes, and familiar faces in the form of Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jermaine Clement. It was exactly what it needed to be silly, good humored dumb fun and I loved every single second of it!
