[D2] The Gilded Age: The Complete Third Season
(Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Denée Benton, Louisa Jacobson, et al / 2-Disc DVD / NR / 2025 / HBO Home Video - Studio Distribution Services)

Overview: The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic and social change, when empires were built, but no victory came without sacrifice. Following the Opera War, the old guard is weakened and the Russells stand poised to take their place at the head of society.

Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn’t ruin him first.

Across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes refuses to accept Ada’s new position as lady of the house. Peggy meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career.

As all of New York hastens toward the future, their ambition may come at the cost of what they truly hold dear.

Step back into the opulence and intrigue of New York’s elite as Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment releases the captivating third season of the Emmy®-nominated HBO Original drama series The Gilded Age to DVD on December 2nd, 2025, available online and in stores nationwide.

Indulge in all eight episodes of the historical drama that won fans over with its charming cast and compelling storylines plus previously released bonus content. The Gilded Age: The Complete Third Season is the perfect addition for longtime fans and a grand introduction for new viewers.

DVD Verdict: Set against the backdrop of the early 20th century during a time of immense social change, the show brilliantly explores the struggle for power and status between the established old money aristocracy and the ambitious new money families.

What truly makes it so great is the character development. Each person is so well-written and compelling, with their own unique story and motivations. It’s a joy to watch how their lives intertwine.

That said, beware, for from gross materialism and greedy industrialists making obscene amounts of money off the backs of immigrants and the lower class, to selfish and ruthless women who shamelessly climb society’s social ladder ... this series has it all!

Watching this excellent program makes me wonder how America ever survived this period in history dominated by political corruption and a lust for money. The focus is on the shallow and self-absorbed Russell family and their tremendous desire for money, power and social standing.

For here in the third season, and with the old guard fading, the Russell’s rise. Bertha eyes a grand prize, George bets big on railroads, and the Brooks face upheaval as Ada takes charge. Peggy finds love and resistance. As ambition surges across New York, each must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice for power, love, and legacy.

Watch it with, to coin an overused cliche, shock and awe that we as a nation were able to weather this era of greed and petty women. If you have been to New York or from New York, watching this makes total sense when you look at the buildings and how stuff align when you are there.

Of course though, there is drama along with oh-so many heartwarming scenes too. Love Carrie Coons in this, after seeing her in White Lotus, this shows her amazing acting skills. Also love the other actors too: Christine Baranski, Morgan Spector, et al. While some of the history is fictional it does accurately depict the struggles of the time, women’s issues and lack of legal rights and the struggles for more autonomy.

But, if navigating this series for the first time you should know that the first season is a bit slow, but necessary as it establishes the characters, whereas season 2 and these eight, delightfully delectable season 3 episodes were most definitely not.

In conclusion, this is a very well written, well directed, wonderful costuming and extremely well-casted. Honestly, this show deserves every award out there but unfortunately has not won much - speaks volumes about awards! Baranski is absolutely a delight to watch with great delivery and acting chops. Coon does a great job as well. Kudos to the director and writer for giving us a series to be remembered.
