[JUNE 2] Pantheon - The Welsh
By: Mhara Starling - Moon Books - $16.95
Overview: In Pantheon - The Welsh author Mhara Starling takes you on a journey to meet the Deities of Wales. Via history, mythology, literature, folklore, language, and magic, you will delve into the very pantheon of Gods that have emerged from the landscape that is Cymru.
Verdict: Having grown up - in my early life - with a Welsh family (in Wales) whose patron was a devoted Pagan, I was aware early on that Welsh paganism merged ancient Brythonic Celtic traditions, mythology from the Mabinogi, and folklore, often focusing on nature, the landscape, and ancestor veneration.
Indeed, it was told to me growing up that it was a modern reconstructionist and eclectic practice that draws from rich Welsh literature (ie: Taliesin’s poetry) to honor deities like Cerridwen, Branwen, and Arianrhod.
So if you have ever been interested in paganism over the years, or just mildly curious about where to find some sources on Welsh pagan practices, beliefs, and so forth, welcome to the dutifully written, expertly crafted Pantheon - The Welsh from the astute author Mhara Starling.
What Mhara does is bring forth a magnificent prose on the subject matter to hand, allowing the reader to self-guide themselves through the text; a text that is easy to read and formidably informational. Inclusive of Magic to Myths, Gods to the known/unknown Holidays, what you also get here is a series of practical tips and exercises.
About the Author - Born and raised in North Wales, and a first language Welsh speaker, Mhara Starling is a Welsh Folk Witch who writes on the subjects of Welsh mythology, folklore, and magic. She lives in Chester, UK.
