[AUG 4] Death - You Gotta Love It
By: Tony Ærcyus Christie - O-Books - $19.95
Overview: Based on three main premises, Death - You Gotta Love It takes you beyond the fear of death and into a vibrantly fulfilling life. First, there are only two ways of being: in fear or in love. Second, humanity’s greatest fear is of death. And third, when you choose to love death, you choose a way of life that cultivates love for all life, and a greater sense of peace and joy.
Verdict: For me, growing up, I was told that biologically our nervous system is wired to fear death because the survival instinct pushes you to protect yourself. However, philosophically, thinkers like Epicurus argue there is no reason to fear it: when you exist, death is not; when death is, you no longer exist to experience it.
While a mild, primal concern keeps you safe, fixating on death often drains the joy out of living. Many psychologists and philosophers suggest that acknowledging the finite nature of life can actually help you appreciate it more, motivating you to pursue meaning and embrace the present.
Death is a relatively fast process that propels you into the unknown of the afterlife. As a naturally inquisitive person, this excites me. Some people claim to know what happens in the afterlife but no human has ever truly known; not with definitive proof, that is. I have been through a lot of very difficult and draining (emotionally/physically) things in my relatively short lifetime.
In my opinion, this existence is fleeting and every breath we take could be our last. I find no reason to worry myself over what COULD happen during the process and in the afterlife when I know I will not be conscious after death. Am I scared of the pain that my physical body will experience? No. “Why?”, you might be asking. I have a very high pain tolerance and I am able to recede into my mind when my environment is difficult. When I experience intense, truly shocking pain I don’t feel it. When you have endured so much mental and physical pain you build up an extreme tolerance.
This, in my opinion, is what makes a fearless person. To conquer the fear of death you have to hit rock bottom. To conquer the fear of death you have to live hard enough to value the life you could lose. When you truly value what is around you, you learn to appreciate it in the moment and not let the paranoia of losing it cloud your enjoyment of the present.
Thus here in what I can only describe as a book for the ages, written by the dutifully intelligent, impassioned, inquisitive, tutorial mind of Tony Ærcyus Christie, we learn that departing from traditional reactions such as anger, denial, fear, grief, and loss brings a new approach to death, one that is both exciting and invigorating. A more radical, proactive approach, whereby the reader takes ownership of their own mortality and, in so doing, frees oneself from negative thinking and emotions about their pending death.
A vital element in humanity’s evolution and advancement, Death - You Gotta Love It is part of a great shift into higher consciousness, moving you from fear to love and taking you on a journey of exploration so that, when your time comes, you’ll be well prepared and ready for - perhaps even looking forward with excitement to - the adventure of death.
