Inspired by the Academy Award®-winning film, 'An American in Paris' brings this classic tale to Broadway, for the first time, with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony® and Pulitzer Prize® nominee Craig Lucas. The incredible, colorful, full of fun pomp and swirl show is directed and choreographed by Olivier Award® winner and Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, U.K., Christopher Wheeldon.

'An American in Paris' is the romantic story of a young American soldier, a beautiful French girl and an indomitable city, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of World War II. A 1951 American musical film inspired by the 1928 orchestral composition by George Gershwin, that starred Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, what makes this Broadway version stand out is, of course, the musical score.

Indeed, the brilliant score for 'An American in Paris' - which comes in two Acts here on this delightful CD - includes many well-known Gershwin classics like 'I Got Rhythm,' 'S Wonderful,' 'But Not For Me,' 'Stairway to Paradise' and 'They Can't Take That Away From Me.' Add to that collection of stand out tracks the haunting orchestral music that adds as the backdrop, we also are treated to such Gershwin scores as 'Concerto in F,' 'Second Prelude,' 'Second Rhapsody' and 'An American in Paris.'

With the score having been adapted, arranged and supervised by Rob Fisher, with orchestrations by Christopher Austin and musical direction by Brad Haak, this Broadway Cast Recording of 'An American in Paris' showcases the romantic story of a young American soldier, a beautiful French girl and an indomitable European city all in one beautiful musical episode. Hey, being nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, says it all, doesn't it?
