Title - Hog Fever: Episodes 1-5 (Full-Cast Audio Theater)
Artist - Richard La Plante & Kevin Godley

Midway between the satire of Spinal Tap and the pathos of American Beauty lies the schizophrenic state of mind known as 'Hog Fever'. On the surface this is the story of a man, a motorcycle, and a teetering bank balance. But lurking beneath, occasionally visible like threads through faded denim, is the story of a man in search of freedom -- or at least one last stab at it!

Motivated by the emasculating success of his British screenwriter wife and a love of Easy Rider and The Wild One, Robert Lourdes, a struggling American author on the cusp of forty, finds solace in the Harley-Davidson legend. Robert's last-ditch attempt to become part of his wife's world ends in disaster when she blatantly co-opts his idea for a screenplay during a dinner party for a hideous Hollywood producer.

The arrival of Gabriella, a beautiful Italian production assistant with a Harley of her own, stirs in Robert the first tremors of a long-dormant passion. Confused and lacking the confidence to shed the marital skin, he takes further refuge in shiny accessories, rallies, and bigger Harleys, culminating in a 1,700-mile pilgrimage to a major biker rally in Marbella, Spain.

Ergo, 'Hog Fever' is Robert's comedy of errors as he embarks on a tattoo-and-testosterone-fueled quest to find himself. Now, and for those not in the know, the original screenplay for 'Hog Fever' was written by both Richard La Plante and Kevin Godley. The former is a musician, songwriter and the bestselling author of eight novels and two memoirs, including this now-being-reviewed 'Hog Fever' - upon which this fictionalized Ear Movie is based.

The latter is an English musician, writer, artist, inventor, and award-winning music video director. He was a founder member of Art Rock band 10cc and Godley & Creme. His music video credits include tracks by the Beatles, U2, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Keane, Eric Clapton, Snow Patrol, Alabama 3, and Lou Reed. He is also the founder of WholeWorldBand, an audio/video music collaboration app.

Having successfully raised $27,495 with just 71 backers via a KickStarter campaign - that actually ran way back in 2013 - with just one week to go (at the time) the duo added a new member to their team: Daniel Ash, rock musician extraordinaire! Daniel was the guitarist in the iconic British goth rock band Bauhaus and a founding member (vocalist/guitarist) of the chart-topping alternative rock bands Love and Rockets and Tones On Tail.

Also, and by no small coincidence, he is also a biker, the real deal, in fact! Ergo, his contributions to the 'Hog Fever' soundtrack (which is also included in this 4-disc box-set) ensures an original and heart-thumping musical ride, of that have no doubt.

As you may well now have figured out, our central character, Robert Lourdes is autobiographically based on the real life accounts of the Richard La Plante's experiences riding, customizing, and learning to ride Harley motorcycles. So, prepare for it to come across, well, let's just say, erm ... self-centered, shallow, and self-serving, at the best (and worst) of times! Illustrating a life poorly lived, perhaps, sure, and chock full of less than redeeming values, 'Hog Fever: Episodes 1-5' is a fun adventure - but one that doesn't so much as allow you to escape with it, but moreover begs you to question what you have done with your own life up until this point!
