Title - Guru Guru Groove Band -The Birth of Krautrock 1969
Artist - Guru Guru Groove Band

A newly discovered gem finally sees the light of day courtesy of Guru Guru founding member of Mani Neumeier! Entitled Guru Guru Groove Band – The Birth of Krautrock 1969 from the Guru Guru Groove Band, this historically important release was recorded in a small studio in Heidelberg Germany in 1969 with Neumeier and future Guru Guru member Uli Trepte, as well as en masse of guest appearances, performing a collective free style modal improvisation that would form the foundation of many Krautrock bands to come!

OK, so just what is Krautrock, I hear some of you now ask? Well, Krautrock is a broad genre of experimental rock that developed in Germany in the late 1960s. The term was originated by music journalists as a humorous name for a sector of German bands, whose music drew from varied sources such as psychedelic rock, avant-garde electronic music, funk, minimalism, jazz improvisation, and world music styles.

Largely divorced from the traditional blues and rock and roll influences of British and American rock music up to that time, the period contributed to the evolution of electronic music and ambient music as well as the birth of post-punk, alternative rock and new-age music.

For the record, no pun intended, Guru Guru Groove Band – The Birth of Krautrock 1969 may well have been recorded in that small studio in Heidelberg Germany in 1969 with Neumeier and future Guru Guru member Uli Trepte - as well as a host of guest musicians - but it's the now-revealed fact that they were all taking shit loads of LSD that makes listening to this masterpiece a gem of an experience!

Furthermore, if you weren't aware, Guru Guru were related to the free jazz music scene both through their work with Swiss pianist Irène Schweizer and through Neumeier, who had already won several jazz prizes. The band was also influenced by psychedelic rock artists, such as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Rolling Stones and early Pink Floyd.

Guru Guru Groove Band – The Birth of Krautrock 1969 is available on both CD and a special 200 gram white label, hand stamped vinyl pressing!
