Title - 'Error In The System: Expanded Edition'
Artist - Peter Schilling

As I'm sure you are well aware by now, the uber talented Peter Schilling is a German synthpop musician whose songs often feature science-fiction themes (aliens, astronauts, nuclear holocaust, etc.). Born in Stuttgart, Germany, his brilliant 1983 album, Error in the System, generated his only international hit single, "Major Tom (Coming Home)", a retelling of David Bowie's classic 1969 song "Space Oddity".

Although the song was originally recorded in German, the international hit version was sung in English. In 1984 and 1985, Schilling released the albums 120 Grad and 120 Grad's English-language version, 1985's Things to Come. From 1986 to 1989, Schilling released non-album singles and put out his 1988 compilation The Different Story. In 1990, Schilling suffered from burnout and the following year he took a break. In 1994, he married his girlfriend Catyana. They got divorced in 2003. He is now married to his second wife since 2012.

Now Cherry Red Records have lovingly released a digitally remastered and Expanded Edition of that very same album, Error In The System, the German pop/rock artist's 1983 debut. I say debut, but as alluded to above, Schilling's debut album actually arrived a year earlier in Germany (Fehler I'm System) (1982) before Elektra released the record in English.

Schilling had been delving into the music scene in various ways since 1976, all without much success, it has to be said. His first release was the mesmerizing techno (still today) of "Träume sind mehr als nur Illusionen” (aka “Dreams Are More Than Just Illusions”) which came out that same year and was followed by a few more random 7" singles over the years.

But then Schilling struck it BIG with the massive hit single, “Major Tom”. Drifting seemingly harmlessly midway in the tracklisting of his debut album, the entire LP vibe was one of his specialty: Electro pop meets New Wave. In truth, the synthesizer-based album, complete with en masse of actual guitar work also, has a sound that instantly reminds one of the 80's! I know it should, but it's as if Schilling captured it perfectly at the time without even knowing it.

Sadly though, Peter Schilling would never replicate the success of this LP and its attendant hit single, but luckily for us this expanded and remastered edition of Error In The System comes to us now in a deluxe super jewel case with a brand new interview with remixer John Luongo - as well as a lush nine (9) bonus tracks!
