Title - 'What Are We Fighting For: Limited Deluxe Edition'
Artist - Dodgy

For those not in the know over here in the States, Dodgy are an English power pop rock trio, that rose to prominence during the Britpop era of the 1990s. They are best known for their hits "Staying Out for the Summer", "If You're Thinking of Me", and "Good Enough", with the latter being their biggest hit reaching #4 in the UK Singles Chart.

Dodgy released their first album in over a decade, Stand Upright In A Cool Place, on Strikeback Records in February 2012 and have now followed it up this past September 2nd, 2016 with their fifth album (and their first new material since their aforementioned lauded 2012 comeback reunion album), What Are We Fighting For: Limited Deluxe Edition via Cherry Red Records.

Dodgy – Nigel Clark, Mathew Priest, Stu Thoy and Andy Miller – have always stated that they were heavily influenced by July, Harmonium and Can and now Nigel’s new-found love of bands like Atlas Sound and White Fence have propelled the beloved UK band into creating some incredible music here on this brand new fifth album. Jam packed with 10 new tracks, even Dodgy have gone on record to say that they themselves believe What Are We Fighting For is their best record yet.

Back in the 90s, Dodgy sold over a million records worldwide, released three albums and enjoyed 12 Top 40 singles, which all goes to make the arrival of this new album all that more exciting. The lead track is what they are calling a ‘fan club’ single, "You Give Drugs A Band Name", which is yet again, and as expected, one damn fine example of Dodgy to the musical core.

Featuring the amazing Vanessa Wilson from Ultrasound on four tracks, including the aforementioned first track "What Are We Fighting For" and the album-closing title track, "What Are We Fighting For", these Brit-pop diamonds show us their infectious, goofy punk-pop sensibilities are still right on track here. Cuts like "Now Means Nothing At All", "Is This Goodbye", the jaunty fun of "Mended Heart", "Where I Shall Begin" and even through in their laid back ballad style on tracks such as "California Gold", "Are You The One" and the stunning, stoic, raw "The Hills", Dodgy showcase one of the most must-have albums of 2016 throughout.

Indeed, famous fans of the band include Cenzo Townshend (Florence, U2, Primal Scream), who demanded to mix some tracks and Rob Da Bank, who offered Dodgy a slot at Bestival. FYI: The first pressing will be in a limited edition digipack case (NOW SOLD OUT). All subsequent re-pressings will be in a jewel case.
