Title - 'Æppreciation II'
Artist - Leæther Strip

For those not in the know, Leæther Strip is a Danish musical project founded on January 13, 1988 by Claus Larsen whose influence has been most felt in the electronic body music and electro-industrial genres.

Leæther Strip was one of the earliest and most prominent acts on Germany's now defunct Zoth Ommog record label. After the demise of Zoth Ommog in 1999, Larsen signed to Bloodline Records, which only released a single before also going out of business.

In 2005 Leæther Strip signed with the Belgian-based label Alfa Matrix. On June 3, 2011, Larsen announced his split from Alfa Matrix in order to self-release future material.

In 2014, Leæther Strip brought us Æppreciation, a collection of songs performed in tribute to their favorite artists of all time. Now we have the follow up to that set, Æppreciation II (via Cleopatra Records).

1. 'Lady Shave' (Fad Gadget)
2. 'Beat My Guest' (Adam Ant)
3. 'Tainted Love' (Gloria Jones/Soft Cell)
4. 'Man in the Man' (Dave Ball)
5. 'You Spin Me Round' (Like a Record) (Dead Or Alive)
6. 'Holidays in the Sun' (Sex Pistols)
7. 'Heat' (Soft Cell)
8. 'View from a Bridge' (Kim Wilde)
9. 'Broken English' (Marianne Faithful)
10. 'Anal Staircase' (Coil)

An interesting collection of artists that wouldn't have sprung to my mind for such a collection of tributes by Leæther Strip to have chosen, but nonetheless, and for the most part, they work really rather well in these new formats.

Fad Gadget's 'Lady Shave' is a defining moment on the album and sets the tone perfectly for what's to come. Adam Ant's 'Beat My Guest' isn't as frenetic as the original, but nice enough, which is actually what could be said of most all the tracks, in truth.

Tracks like 'Tainted Love' (Soft Cell), 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' (Dead Or Alive), Kim Wilde's 'View From A Bridge' and even the Sex Pistols' 'Holidays In The Sun' are all great renditions, but without any uproar behind them, tend to fall a wee bit flat mid way through.

That said, stand out cuts here are ones such as 'Man In The Man' (Dave Ball), 'Heat' (Soft Cell0< and the two tracks that round the album out: the wonderful, truly inspired 'Broken English' (Marianne Faithful), and the powerful 'Anal Staircase' from Coil.
