Title - 'Before & After'
Artist - Lou Volpe
For those not in the know, accomplished guitarist Lou Volpe will be releasing his brand new CD Before and After via Jazz Guitar Records.
The new 13-track album combines influences of jazz, bossa nova and blues and except for two Standards all were composed by Volpe himself.
His last CD, Remembering Ol’ Blue Eyes (the songs of Sinatra) received rave reviews and has gotten airplay throughout Europe as well as here in the US.
A native New Yorker, Lou Volpe is a standard not only on the New York music scene, but also recognized internationally as a master of the guitar.
His artistry is combined with elegance, fire and soul coupled with a seductive, lyrical sound. Indeed, Volpe’s empathetic virtuosity has allowed him to work in a wide variety of musical contexts while developing a unique approach to the guitar – a warm and lyric romanticism that illuminates the worlds of Jazz, R&B and Adult Contemporary.

Having a past resume of performance and recording credits with diverse artists such as Peggy Lee, Chaka Khan, Bo Diddley, David “Fathead” Newman, Chet Baker, Liza Minnelli, Lionel Hampton, Roberta Flack, Phoebe Snow, The Manhattan Transfer and numerous others, Volpe kicks of this mighty fine album with the free flowing majesty of 'Up The Road,' before seamlessly backing it with both the gentle hipsway of 'Three Rivers,' and then the upbeat and funky bass lines of 'Coming My Way.'
For this highly enjoyable new project, Volpe is joined by drummer Buddy Williams, Stanley Banks, Pete Falbo, or Motoki Mihara on bass and Gary Fritz, John Romanagnoli or Richie Morales on percussion.
Up next are the crisp melodies of 'Full Tilt' which is followed by the lush one-two vibe of 'Stella By Starlight,' his unique take on 'Summertime,' and then both the upbeat, finger-snappin' excellence of 'Travel Light' and then the twinkling lowdown resonance of 'Precious Jewel.'
The album then rounds out with the thoughtful 'A to Z,' a somewhat Cuban-inspired 'Solar Dance,' the sheer musical delight of 'Perseguidor De Suenos (Dream Chaser),' before coming to a close with the mid-tempo groove of 'Double Summer,' and then the laid back title track, the dreamy 'Before and After.'
