Title - 'Supertonic: Mixes'
Artist - Diana Ross
For those not in the know, Diana Ross - who has scored four consecutive Billboard #1 Dance Club Songs Chart singles over the last two years with 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough,' 'I'm Coming Out / Upside Down', 'The Boss' and 'Love Hangover 2020' (which is also an historical run, as each track also hit #1 during its original release) - has now released a brand new, self-produced album that follows these club hits, with classic songs turned upside down and inside out, so to speak.
Mixed by Eric Kupper, who has had 120 Billboard #1s, Supertonic: Mixes features nine tracks that encapsulate the vocal magnificence of a singer/songwriter who has had, as of today, eight #1 hits on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.
1. 'I'm Coming Out / Upside Down' (Eric Kupper Remix)
2. 'Love Hangover' (Eric Kupper Remix)
3. 'The Boss' (Eric Kupper Remix)
4. 'Surrender' (Eric Kupper Remix)
5. 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' (Eric Kupper Remix)
6. 'No One Gets The Prize' (Eric Kupper Remix)
7. 'It's My House' (Eric Kupper Remix)
8. 'Touch Me in the Morning' (Eric Kupper Remix)
9. 'Remember Me' (Eric Kupper Remix)
In truth, Supertonic: Mixes is a special kind of Diana Ross magic. Absolutely authentic, it’s her voice, her electrifying sound. This music has no boundaries, blending the past and the now in this new collection.
With all the remixes having been created from the original multi-tracks of the masters taken from the Motown vaults, up first is the magnificent, and still totally irresistible blend of 'I’m Coming Out/Upside Down' (originally remixed in 2018).
A super dosed package of hyper beats and frenetic, foot-tappin' energy bites, that's backed by my personal favorite of the nine tracks, a pumped up, classic Disco enhanced-for-modern-day vibe of her 1976 hit 'Love Hangover.'
Chock full of classic Motown rhythms and Disco-era high top beats and dancefloor jams, Kupper expertly adds sprightly, bouncy beats, back beat reverbs, and electronic faze effects to the original material.
With hands raised high above our heads, feet firmly planted in various shape-shifting moves on the dancefloor, 'The Boss' builds and then soars majestically, and that's backed seamlessly by the funky one-two beats of a reimagined 'Surrender.'
Rising to fame as the lead singer of The Supremes, Ross has never let the music world pass her by and here on Supertonic: Mixes, with the aid of Kupper, she has come back even stronger, to once again stake a claim on the charts.
'Ain’t No Mountain High Enough' now comes complete with a fabulously punchy bass line, as always just perfect for the dancefloors of any era, and that's followed by the euphoric 'No One Gets The Prize.'
Complete with a brand new beginning that seems perfectly suited to the opening of a live show, that's backed by a newly-incorporated electronic hipsway now evident within her 1979 gem, 'It's My House.'
This vibrantly magnificent album then rounds out with her second solo #1 single from 1973, the amped up 'Touch Me In The Morning,' and comes to a close on the lovingly warm, crisp and heartfelt textures of her foot-tappin', shoulder-swayin' classic, 'Remember Me.'
On May 29th, 2020, the digital release of Supertonic, featuring new remixes of nine classics, will be released by Motown/UMe. Supertonic: Mixes also will be available June 26th, 2020 on CD and crystal-clear vinyl.
