For those unaware, experimental electronic artist Boom chr Paige continues to showcase his exceptional creative spirit today, releasing his new 13-track ambient album Membranes on vinyl and digital streaming platforms.

Offering stunning sonic textures and enthralling electronic elements, Membranes is an innovative exploration of a specific moment in time, taking listeners on a journey through two non-contiguous days during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a collection, the album was specifically designed for vinyl, with Side A focusing on the optimism and hope at the beginning of the crisis, and Side B providing a darker contrast, conveying a sense of withering and anguish as the pandemic changed the rules of everyday life.

This album is divided into two different days of 2020, one earlier in spring, the other in fall. The day in spring was the confusion, the rubber-necking news stories, but still a little bit of hope that the pandemic would end shortly.

The day in fall slows down, offers fewer answers, echoes the exhaustion, and reminisces dreams fading away, Boom chr Paige explains.

This quite magnificently translucent new album opens on the gradual growth of Black Sky and the ethereal gossamer of Dream Sequence A and then brings us the playful fun of Morning Sequence A, the diaphanous The Guide, before Side A rounds out on the drum-led Shes An Animal and the electro beats and pulses of Evening Sequence A.

Side B opens on the vibrational synth illusions of Outside Sarah & Davids House and the glassy ambiance of Dream Sequence B and then brings us the pulsating Morning Sequence B, the beautiful hipsway of Vega, the graceful fragility of Above London, closing on the stringently designed Evening Sequence B and the static gauze of Stitch These Wings.

Transforming graphic and visual concepts into musical delights—for example, the track Dream Sequence A was based on the concept of dark blue fabric dragged across a bed of nails—Boom employs ethereal and magnificently immersive soundscapes to convey a wide scale of thoughts and emotions, from uncertainty and naive optimism to devastating trauma and bewilderment.

Reflecting both the complexity of the human experience and the resilience of the human spirit, with Membranes Boom has succeeded in creating a snapshot of an unforgettable and unprecedented period in the worlds history while also providing listeners with a welcome escape and companion for meditation as they come to terms with the state of the world today.

Born on the 4th of July, while the sky was lit up with fireworks (hence the nickname Boom), the Philadelphia-based musician and producer demonstrated an affinity for music from the time he was a child, thanks to his upbringing in a family that favored the arts.

Surrounded by all genres of music, from disco to jazz to opera, his greatest inspiration derives today from groundbreaking acts like Duran Duran and Imogen Heap.

In a testament to his nickname, his tracks explode with riveting energy, bending and breaking the rules through intentional arrangement choices that leave the listener wondering what to expect next.
