Title - Stop Me Try
Artist - Carl Weingarten

For those unaware, Stop Me Try (out February 12th, 2022 via Multiphase Records) is the latest CD release from Carl Weingarten.

Carl is an American guitarist, photographer and founder of the independent music label Multiphase Records. Described as one of the best indie musicians working today by the San Francisco Chronicle, Carl is best known for his atmospheric sound and his innovative use of the slide guitar and Dobro.

Furthermore, Carl has played a significant role in the progressive independent music scene since the 1980s, recording numerous solo and collaborative instrumental albums.

Stop Me Try was like getting a new band together, Carl explains. I began recording where Ember Days left off, taking a similar melodic path, but wanting to produce music with a bigger sound.

Instead of composing with and for guitars, Stop Me Try became a dive into digital production where I explored a wealth of new sounds and orchestral instruments.

This included strings, keyboards, horns, percussion, synth, voice samples and sound design. The rhythms are driven by downtempo beats, infections grooves punctuated with Michael Manring’s dynamic bass lines

1. A Fistful of Dust (6:35)
2. Ides of May (6:08)
3. Night Life Again (6:50)
4. For Rosa (6:44)
5. Stop Me Try (6:06)

Opening on the shimmeringly translucent A Fistful of Dust and the sonically-charged, space grooved Ides of May, Carl backs those up seamlessly with the multiple musical overlays found within the atmospheric Night Life Again, then comes the simply beautifully, blue-toned For Rosa, the album coming to an all-too-soon close on the free flowing, summer’s day gentle breeze ambience of the title track Stop Me Try.

With the entire new album massing only half an hour of your time, trust me when I say that it is well worth your time, especially as it is jam-packed with swathes of artistic sonic concepts, all melding perfectly within guitar-driven pockets of gentle hip-hop, New Age Jazz, and almost ethereally-imbibed waves of genuine calm.
