Title - Blind Passion
Artist - Katriona Taylor

For those not in the know, Blind Passion is the new jazz, Latin and soul album that celebrates blind artists with original compositions & arrangements from London singer/songwriter, Katriona Taylor.

This is Katriona’s fifth studio album and was recorded during London’s 2020 year of lockdowns. Blind Passion (releasing April 1st, 2022 via Divadoll Records) is the journey of an artist who loves to sing and share her positive passion for music.

Stand out tracks such as the atmospheric Sunny Days, the mid-tempo gossamer of Fly Me To The Stars and the euphoric, self-penned album opener Things Have Changed exude a whole lot of jazz soul, but Katriona does not stop there.

The album also features songs penned or performed by international stars who have all followed their creative passions and achieved musical success despite the impediments of blindness or visual impairment.

You can hear the joy Katriona found in new arrangements of hit songs such as her innovative Latin versions of Master Blaster and the slowed down My Cherie Amour from US music icon Stevie Wonder, along with the soft hipsway now associated with The Doors’ Light My Fire.

1. Things Have Changed
2. It Don’t Mean A Thing
3. In This Place
4. Fly Me To The Stars
5. Master Blaster
6. A Song For You
7. Makes Me Wanna Stay
8. Sunny Days
9. In The Name Of Love
10. My Cherie Amour
11. Light My Fire
12. As You See Me Now

Indeed, Katriona was greatly inspired by Ray Charles’s 1994 cover of Leon Russell’s A Song For You, for which Ray was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and thus her breathy, soft shuffle version here is a thing of real beauty.

Katriona also pays tribute to blind singer Diane Schuur with her version of the fingers-snapping exuberance of It Don’t Mean A Thing and top English pianist, composer and TV presenter Jools Holland OBE (Squeeze) kindly contributes the heartfelt rhythms that make up the dulcet As You See Me Now for the album.

Furthermore, this song was written by Jools and recorded with the famous Puerto Rican blind singer/guitarist José Feliciano, which was the title track for their 2017 album.

Katriona also lays bear some of her more reflective songs with the outstanding vocal and lyrical, vibrant love song Makes Me Wanna Stay, one of the finest songs penned by Katriona on the album, complimented by the percussional adamancy of In The Name Of Love and the sultry lushness of In This Place which show her more poignant side.

Accompanying Katriona on Blind Passion are some of the music industry’s finest musicians - the dynamic saxophonist & flautist Vasilis Xenopoulos, outstanding Amy Winehouse guitarist Robin Banerjee, Latin aficionado pianist John Crawford, Dominic Ashworth on Spanish guitar, Peter Hammond on piano, electric piano & Hammond organ, bassist Dave Jones and Chris Nickolls on drums.
