Title - Waiting For Autumn
Artist - Michael Salvatori

For those unaware, Waiting For Autumn was studio-recorded by the Salvatori brothers, Mike and Tom, as a follow-up to their 1976 Apocalypse studio album entitled The Castle, a period piece prog-rock classic released on Guerssen Records (Spain) Out-sider Label in 2022.

Michael’s 1982 Waiting For Autumn solo album was a limited-run LP release, which has become a rare collectible today. The album was mastered for CD in 2001 and was re-released in the summer of 2022 as a companion to the Apocalypse CD release.

Waiting For Autumn remains a long-lost prog classic co-produced by brothers Michael and Tom and featuring Michael’s original music, vocals and guitars, backed up by Tom Salvatori (classical guitar), Michael’s wife Gail (backing vocals), Gary Polkow (keyboards), Henry Bahr (drums, percussion) and a number of other musicians.

Forty years after the original 1982 vinyl release, Waiting For Autumn sounds equally as remarkable as the first ever release of the 1976 Apocalypse album in 2022.

Of course, as fate would have it, this would be Michael’s final rock solo album to date, as post-1985 he went on to work in the world of composing for commercials and jingles (Flintstone’s Kids Vitamins, etc.) and is still making music history, writing and recording Video Game soundtracks, including with the wildly successful HALO in the 2000’s and now the Destiny series in the 2010s through today.

1. When I Look In Your Eyes (5:37)
2. Waiting For Autumn (6:04)
3. Throw It To The Wind (7:23)
4. Letter From The Front (7:55)
5. A Matter Of Time (3:19)
6. Epilogue (9:03)

The album opens on the jubilantly perky When I Look In Your Eyes, the hazy swirl of the beautifully languishing balladry within the titular Waiting For Autumn and then we get the euphoric Throw It To The Wind.

Next up is one of my own personal favorites from this new collection, the veritably translucent Letter From The Front, the album rounding out on the late 80s, bass-led, swirling AOR of A Matter Of Time and then closing on the near ten minute melodic prog rock majesties that bring forth the magnificent opus Epilogue.

Now in 2022 the time is right to re-experience the sonic wonders of Waiting For Autumn, a symphonic prog-rock classic ahead of its time, and an album that will be remembered among the truly rare and ground-breaking adventures in the world of rock music history.
