Title - Evanescent
Artist - Jay Sanders

For those unaware, Jay Sanders is a guitarist, bassist, composer, producer, and bandleader based in Asheville, N.C. A stylistic virtuoso, whose music has been characterized by an effortless ability to fuse his jazz, rock, blues, metal, and African influences with years of improvisational study and training.

His compositions trend toward the melodic and sublime; expertly traversing between peaceful melodicism, free jazz, and cacophonous noise music. Jay claims Sonny Sharrock, John McLaughlin, Bill Frisell, Dave Holland, Ornette Coleman, and John Hartford among his primary influences.

His solo recording debut, Evanescent, will be released on July 12th, 2024 and is an exploration of influences as well as a meditation on impermanence. Evanescent consists of seven original compositions and a tone poem dedicated to the Voyager spacecraft.

The music is brought to life through the help of Jay’s long-time collaborators Justin Ray, Jacob Rodriguez, Casey Driessen, Steve Alford, Zack Page, Evan Marin, and Tyler Housholder.

1. Ode To Voyager
2. Morningtide
3. Woosel’s Blues
4. Libby’s Theme
5. Krekel
6. Le Cacodaemon
7. Flyswatter
8. Evanescent

This quite wondrously impassioned new recording opens on the stoically-charged Ode To Voyager and the flourishing Morningtide and then proceeds to bring us the flirtatiously fervent Woosel’s Blues and the all-embracing Libby’s Theme.

Along next is the drum-led fervency that drives the spirited Krekel and that is in turn backed by the atmospheric Le Cacodaemon, the album rounding out on the soaringly joyful Flyswatter, closing on an aching yearn that flows within the titular Evanescent.
