Title - Argentina Durán
Artist - Rapsodia Mexicana
For those unaware, and including an unpublished work by Jesús Corona, a composer of indigenous origin, and which also gives its name to the album, on May 3rd, 2024 the brand new recording from Argentina Durán entitled Rapsodia Mexicana will be released worldwide.
As Argentina Durán herself says, as a Mexican, she feels proud of her roots and composers. “I like to spread them to break the stereotype that only European music is the one that has good quality. I think our composers are on par with them and having the opportunity to share it now with other people and make new recordings, like Mexican Rapsodia, which had never been recorded before, is something that makes me very proud.”

This wonderfully flourishing, mightily impassioned new recording from the young and virtuoso pianist, and also the first woman to play that instrument in the National Symphony Orchestra, presents her most recent production here now, and opens on the flourishing Cuatro Danzas Mexicanas: I, Vivo – Meno mosso, espressivo and the strident Più lento and then backs those up with the blossoming, at times, soaring at others Meno mosso, closing that work on the more flighty appeal that drives Poco meno onward.
Along next is the precision shown within Amar... (Nocturno) and then we get the more cultured Berceuse, Op. 12, no. 3 the forthright Marchita el alma - Fantasía sobre una melodía atribuida a Antonio Zúñiga, the delicately hued Padre, the gently flirtatious Danzas Nocturnas: I, Moderato, the playful Con tristeza, and that work culminates on the vivacious Mesto – Poco più, the recording rounding out on the delicate Romanza sin palabras, the glistening Baila Tristeza, closing on the strongly engrossing, and titular Rapsodia Mexicana.
