For those unaware, Kim Wilde has blazed a trail ever since she made her debut with the indelible ‘Kids in America’ back in 1981, becoming the most charted British female artist of the 80s with a string of smashes around the globe. A perennial pop icon, Kim will release her 15th studio album, Closer, in 2025.

By popular demand, Kim’s eighth studio album, 1992’s Love Is, is given a deluxe 3CD+DVD reissue on Cherry Pop, comprehensively expanded with bonus tracks, remixes, videos and BBC TV performances for the very first time.

Originally released on MCA, Love Is features the top 20 smash ‘Love Is Holy’, plus ‘Heart Over Mind’, ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ and the overseas single ‘Million Miles Away’. It found Kim and her brother, co-writer and producer Ricky Wilde collaborating with Rick Nowels on three songs and developing a more seasoned transatlantic sound.

This deluxe edition also adds tracks recorded for 1993’s The Singles Collection, including the ‘In My Life’, the previously unreleased ‘One Door Closes’ and Kim’s classic cover of Yvonne Elliman’s ‘If I Can’t Have You’.

Packaged in a stunning fold-out digifile with a 24-page booklet, this edition features new sleeve notes, discography, additional images from Kim’s personal collection and full lyrics.

Coinciding with corresponding packages for Kim’s other 90s albums, Love Moves and Now and Forever, this is an essential purchase for her army of fans.

When I think of what could be labelled one of Kim Wilde’s truly most underrated albums, there seems to be a few options, sure, but personally I think Love Is stands head and shoulders above the other choices. Why? Well, telling it like it is for that era of the early 90’s, the music featured on the album was very much becoming more and more commercial for her output, and true female pop singers were just not trendy anymore.

And yet each and every song on the album is a genuine corker, a collection of most wonderful and joyfully soulful pop tracks that lit up a room when put on a turntable (or, as it was the early 90’s, when the disc was slid into the CD player).

Funnily enough, and to add salt to the wound, the title cut Love Is Holy turned out to be the only song from the album they took to include on the hits collection that was released the next year.

Regardless, it has always been one of my favorite songs of Kim Wilde. The writers were Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley (who else) and boy, could they make some brilliant overly romantic pop songs with amazing melodies back then (just like they did for another pop icon, Belinda Carlisle).

Who Do You Think You Are is a favorite Kim Wilde song for me and features a great and catchy melody and was actually a song created out of her very own self-criticism, so the story goes! Other stand out tracks include the gorgeous pop-rocker Million Miles Away, the synth-tainted, production-dated beauty I Believe in You, the heart and soul shown within the lyrics of the free flowing Touched by Your Magic, and the emotionally touching A Miracle’s Coming, of course.
