Title - Live for the Ending
Artist - District 97

If you were not aware, over three nights in three very different cities, and in front of prog rock legends such as Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, and Steve Rothery, District 97 performed their entire critically-acclaimed ‘Stay for the Ending’ album, start to finish.

‘Live for the Ending’ puts the listener right in the thick of the powerful, visceral experience that is District 97 live.

The music was recorded in three locations: Chicago in 2022, and on consecutive nights in The Netherlands and London on the 2023 Stay for the Ending tour.

1. Stay For The Ending (Live in London)
2. Mirror (Live in London)
3. Many New Things (Live in Chicago)
4. Crossover (Live in London)
5. Divided We Fall (Live in Chicago)
6. Keyboard Interlude (Live in London)
7. Life Cycle (Live in London)
8. X (Live in Holland)
9. X-Faded (Live in Holland)
10. Deck Is Stacked (Live in Holland)
11. The Watcher (Live in Holland)
12. Matte Kudasai (Live in Chicago)
13. On Paper (Live in London)

This new collection of rock prog AOR metal opens on the edgy, ever-varied, excellently eclectic Stay For The Ending and the jagged, yet harmonically controlled Mirror and they are in turn followed seamlessly by the low slung, melodiously free flowing Many New Things, the catchy Crossover and then both the rhythmically sumptuous prog-AOR of Divided We Fall and the aptly-titled Keyboard Interlude.

Along next is the beautifully sublime Life Cycle and the pulsating instrumental lead in track X to the all-embracing X-Faded, the pulsating prog rocker Deck Is Stacked, the collective live set rounding out on the emboldened The Watcher, one of my favorite King Crimson songs in the quite brilliant Matte Kudasai, closing on a track that really reminds me of Incubus, the striking On Paper.

Jonathan from the band explains: “As much as I’d love to play for all our fans many times over, it’s not always possible to make it to everyone’s town. Hence, I’m thrilled to make ‘Live for the Ending’ available to anyone who wants a dose of high-octane D97. It features the entirety of ‘Stay for the Ending’, which we all consider our best studio album to date, as well as some additional special selections.”

“Performing this demanding music live without the aid of a recording studio is no easy feat, but the five of us playing together on one stage lends an urgency and immediacy to the material that makes for a heck of an exciting listen!”

Leslie from the band adds “It is such a rush to perform these songs on a shared stage with my bandmates, especially after mastering each song within the confines of the vocal booth. These live recordings are the end result of a really tight band that knows the material inside and out and is able to stretch out musically, keeping the listener on their toes as well as each other.”

“Honestly, I see the Slams as a dirty (NYC) Lower East Side rock ‘n’ roll band that would have hung out down at the pub with Dave Edmunds and the Rolling Stones.”
