Title - Man @ Work, Volume 2’ (Aqua Blue Color Vinyl)
Artist - Colin Hay
For those unaware, Colin Hay became a household name as the front-man for ’80s pop sensation Men at Work, and his musical legacy has extended for over 40 years.
Man @ Work, Volume 2 (out now via Compass Records) is the sequel to his 2002 best seller Man @ Work and offers fans an impeccable set of favorites from across Hay’s rich catalog, including Men at Work classics, solo album highlights, and new material.
Available in this simply beautiful Aqua Blue vinyl or as both a regular CD or digital entity, the album is one of those that speaks volumes for the musical genius that is the composer himself. In this case, the brilliant storyteller Colin Hay.
Colin has an exciting and busy 2025 ahead, featuring performances with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, the Men At Work, TOTO, and Christopher Cross Summer tour, along with solo shows around the globe scheduled for later in the year!
Side A:
1. Into My Life
2. Blue for You
3. Come Tumblin’ Down
4. Oh California
5. Frozen Fields of Snow
Slipping the vinyl record out of its sleeve, marveling at the beautiful aqua blue color of it as the sun glints admiringly through, I placed it onto the record player, gently dropped the needle and sat back to enjoy the first side.
Up first is the easy going nostalgic flare of Into My Life which is followed by the upbeat, free flowing pop-Reggae sounds of Blue for You, the catchy Americans-blues sound of Come Tumblin’ Down, before both the deeply expressive Oh California and the peacefully lamenting Frozen Fields of Snow are brought forth.
Side B:
1. We the People (feat. Derrick Solpowa Rice)
2. Catch a Star
3. No Sign of Yesterday
4. Here in My Hometown
5. Next Year People
Flipping the vinyl over, and this quite wonderous new collection of sounds continues onward with the Reggae-tastic vibe of We the People (featuring rapped vocals from Producer/Sound Engineer/Songwriter Derrick Solpowa Rice) and the poplicious, and to my mind criminally underrated musical brilliance of Catch a Star and then we are gifted the heartbreaking beautiful (and one of my favorite Men at Work tunes to date) No Sign of Yesterday, the set rounding out on the mellow, Sting-esque Here in My Hometown, coming to an all too soon close on the hauntingly melodious Next Year People.
