For those not in the know, Peter Murphy’s initial foray into the music world was as the inimitable singer for the pioneering early-80’s band Bauhaus, releasing a groundbreaking body of work that remains relevant and influential in the worlds of music and culture. Known as an innately charismatic and courageous live performer, Peter continues to grow his fanbase across continents and generations.

He remains a commanding stage presence, a performer who reaches all eyes, hearts, and minds in the room and takes them on a sonic odyssey. In recent years, Peter has played to sold-out crowds all over the world. His live performances are an unmatched, alluring mix of enigmatic theatrics, artful guile, pure rock and roll swagger, and a voice that is evocative and transcendent.

In 2024, Peter created his own label, Silver Shade, to release rare live performances and previously unreleased material.

The third release on Peter Murphy of Bauhaus own Silver Shade label is an unreleased show from San Diego’s 4th & B from 2000. The band features Peter’s ex-Bauhaus bandmate Kevin Haskins on Drums, Eric Avery from Jane’s Addiction on Bass, current Psychedelic Furs man Peter DiStefano on Guitar and Doug De Angelis on Keyboards.

Peter himself plays acoustic guitar on some tracks. By 2000 Peter had a wealth of solo material to choose from which is reflected in the career spanning setlist. Digipack CD featuring an original painting by Peter Murphy.

This beautifully crafted third volume of his live sets opens on the propellent Final Solution, the frenetically-charged The Scarlet Thing In You and the rhythmically enduring Wild Birds Flock To Me and then we are brought forth the rocker Mirror To My Woman’s Mind, the Ultravox-imbibed Subway, the low slung and moody Disappearing, before both the all-embracing I’ll Fall With Your Knife and the full on guitar alt-rock of Crystal Wrists are gifted us.

Along next is the languishing, at first, latterly engaged Sweetest Drop, and that is acoustically backed by the balladry of songs such as Hit Song, Big Love Of A Tiny Fool and Marlene Dietrich’s Favourite Poem and they are in turn backed by the organically mid-tempo A Strange Kind Of Love, the low key industrial hue of Surrendered, the melodious rock of Roll Call, the set rounding out on the spatial flow of Huuvola.
