Title - E•MO•TION [10th Anniversary Edition 2LP]
Artist - Carly Rae Jepsen

For those unaware, Award-nominated pop singer and songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen celebrates a decade of her unanimously acclaimed third full-length album, E•MO•TION, with a special 10th Anniversary Edition out October 17th, 2025 via Interscope/UMe.

It arrives in multiple configurations such as Digital Deluxe, ATMOS, and various exclusive Vinyl variants. The Vinyl pressings include 1LP Blue Swirl Color Vinyl, 1LP Zoetrope Vinyl, and 2LP Magenta Swirl Color Vinyl with a special alternate cover plus an insert of the original cover.

E•MO•TION (10th Anniversary Edition) notably features six bonus tracks, including both the Kyle Shearer and Rostam remixes of “Run Away With Me” and four previously unreleased tracks, “More,” “Guardian Angel,” “Back Of My Heart,” and “Lost In Devotion.”

Jepsen originally released E•MO•TION on June 24th, 2015. Upon arrival, it crashed the Top 10 of the Top Albums Chart in Canada and the Top 20 of the Billboard 200. Among a bevy of fan-favorite anthems, this body of work comprises her Platinum-certified single “I Really Like You,” “Run Away With Me,” “Your Type,” and many more. E*MO*TION earned a host of rave reviews with several outlets - including TIME, Entertainment Weekly, Pitchfork, People, Stereogum, Vulture, and Complex - declaring it the pop album of 2015.

However, E•MO•TION’s influence has only continued to magnify throughout the last decade, emerging as a high watermark of 21st-century pop music.

Side A:
1. Run Away With Me
2. Emotion
3. Really Like You
4. Gimmie Love
5. All That
6. Boy Problems

Side B:
1. Making The Most Of The Night
2. Your Type
3. Let’s Get Lost
4. LA Hallucinations
5. Warm Blood
6. When I Needed You

Side C:
1. Black Heart
2. I Didn’t Just Come Here To Dance
3. Favourite Colour
4. Never Get To Hold You
5. Love Again
6. Cut To The Feeling

The production. Holy sh*t, the production is just so good throughout. It’s not even just polished, it’s almost fluidly perfect. It’s not just perfectly tailored to each melody, either; the production itself is actually catchy in a weird way.

The weirdly NIN-recalling Black Heart, the retro gold of Run Away With Me, when those swung drums come in at the end of the first chorus of Warm Blood ... there are so many little instrumental and compositional moments on here you just can’t get out of your head. As a hobby producer myself, this was definitely the big WOW factor that kept bringing me back to the album back in the day.

The songwriting, while at some points dipping in quality - my friend mentioned I Really Like You and that chorus, though I’ve come around to it, was definitely not my cup of tea at first - is also pretty damn tight. Boy Problems has a lot of double entendres and great little lines (albeit with another chorus I don’t really enjoy) and the title track has a killer chorus intro line.

Also, Making The Most Of The Night somehow slips through the grasp of predictability multiple times in the first verse which means, overall, I was more than pleasantly surprised to learn that she has a big songwriting role compared to most pop singers; she really knows how to craft a vocal part to her strengths.

Indeed, there’s something incredibly refreshing about a very catchy and fun pop album you can actually listen to front to back without the stain of radio overplay and external context. While it’s unfortunate that she didn’t see the kind of single success that Call Me Maybe enjoyed, I personally believe that I wouldn’t have enjoyed this album as much with a song that overplayed and unavoidable as that on here to break up the flow.

As it stands, I Really Like You didn’t stick with me at first at all and I didn’t hear any other of the singles until release, resulting in 15 beautiful pop gems unblemished by radio-forced memories and context. I’d, at the very least, propose that this perfect storm of incredibly catchy music that wasn’t beaten over our heads for months was a big factor in the enjoyment of this album for many of its more critically-minded fans.

Side D (Bonus Tracks)
1. More
2. Guardian Angel
3. Back Of My Heart
4. Lost In Devotion
5. Run Away With Me (Kyle Shearer Remix)
6. Run Away With Me (Rostam Remix)

Including a selection of 4 unreleased vault tracks along with 2 brand-new remixes of Run Away With Me, the fourth side here is a gem all of its own, trust me!

Get it pumped on some house speakers on a nice sunny day, windows and doors open, and allow that part of you that once was able to love radio hits to breathe and let Carly Rae show you how good modern pop (when crafted with a team of very talented hands) can actually be (even with it being a decade old!).
