Title - Water, Rock, Tree, Sky
Artist - Aerie Trio
For those unaware, Waves crash on a rocky coast; wind whispers through an ancient forest; crabs scuttle anxiously for tidepool cover; shorebirds forage busily along the beach; camas paint spring meadows purple; the scent of roses wafts through the air. This is our Island.
This is the Victoria, British Columbia-based Aerie Trio’s debut record, which captures two compositions by the group’s flautist, Diane Berry. It was recorded on Triangle Mountain, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

With the album capturing the essence of its geographical source, whilst offering a genuinely heartfelt tribute to the land that birthed it, we are first gifted an eight-part work scored for flute, cello, and piano, the Vancouver Island Suite: which opens on the ornately supple Prelude, the playfully enjoyable Beaches and the more emotive Tidepools and then comes the furtively cautious The Rainforest.
Along next is an aching yearn that threads throughout Creeks and Streams and which is itself backed seamlessly by a passionate longing within Garry Oak Meadow, an ardently languishing The Rose Garden, the recording rounding out on the gently impassioned Coda, the music coming to a close on the creatively atmospherically vocalized, and titular Water, Rock, Tree, Sky.
