Title - Soft Place to Land
Artist - Candace Hastings
For those unaware, Candace Hastings is an Americana singer-songwriter, both Indigenous and cowgirl, whose small songs about big things blend rough-cut beauty, sharp observation, and a lifelong search for hope and home. Adopted, and often on the outside looking in, she learned to study the world from the edges, capturing in words what people carry.
She is a bricoleur, taking life’s raw materials and shaping each song as it becomes what it needs to be: an Irish waltz, a ’90s-country remnant, an old-time swing tune.
Her brand new album, Soft Place to Land, was co-produced by Grammy-winning producer Lloyd Maines. She can also be found swapping songs and singing stories throughout the Texas Hill Country and beyond.

Recommended if you like Brennan Leigh, Summer Dean, and Melissa Carper, Candace first brings us the languishing beauty of Loving Cowboys and then we get the rhythmical Soft Place to Land, the affecting ballad Call Your Mama and then an old-school vibe hazily bleeds through on I Was That Woman.
Along next is the playfully ambient Come Home and that is in turn backed seamlessly by the impassioned Horses I Left Behind, the set rounding out on an aching yearn that threads throughout As Eagles Fly, coming to a close on the upbeat and joyful, fiddle-hued It’s Too Damn Hot.
