For those unaware, Omnivore Recordings has announced three special vinyl reissues from Grammy-nominated southern rock band NEEDTOBREATHE, that were released this past May 22nd, 2026. These include two previously long-out-of-print vinyl releases for their sophomore album The Heat (2-LP set) and their Forever On Your Side EP, plus their double live LP Live From The Woods Vol. 2.

Widely acknowledged by music devotees and media tastemakers for their anthemic, alt-rock dynamic, NEEDTOBREATHE have earned those accolades through musicianship and innovation. Forever On Your Side (Niles City Sound Sessions) was recorded with the producer trio Niles City Sound out of their studio in Ft. Worth, TX. The 4-track collection of songs and collaboration represents a creative leap for the band, who usually self-record and produce out of their home studio, Plantation Studios, in Summerville, South Carolina.

Now this gem is back in print as a 12″ EP on white vinyl, and newly re-cut by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl/Sam Phillips Recording Service, Memphis, TN.

Personally, I love the title track as it’s kinda like a flashback to their grass roots, blue grass type sound. I also love the bluesy electronic jazz sound they have on this EP too, but man, most of all it’s the banjo sound on the title track. Wow, that really takes me back.

The whole Forever On Your Side EP is, for me, extremely reminiscent of “The Outsiders” era NtB. “Darling” is another good acoustic track that mixes it up with a jazzy horn, but both “Bridges Burn” and “Bullets” are also time worthy. Overall, this is a very an enjoyable EP and the fact it is now out via UMe as a delicious white vinyl just makes everything about this musical experience even more enjoyable.

Since 1999, the Grammy-nominated southern rock band NEEDTOBREATHE have quietly emerged as a dynamic force in music, from releasing their debut album with Atlantic Records in 2006 to finding themselves playing arenas and receiving nominations for multiple Dove, Grammy, and Billboard Music Awards.

When their second album, The Heat, was released in 2007, it reached #164 on the 200, and was nominated for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards. The song “More Time” was featured in the film P.S. I Love You.

For my money, NtB took a huge leap production wise on this record and thus the songwriting showcases some stronger melodies and faith-based lyrical themes. NtB step forward a little too confidently, however, and so, if I am being genuinely honest, the album does occasionally suffer from a homogenous sound, but nothing that renders its overall sound diminished, in any way shape or form.

A lot of people I have spoken to about this album over the years have said that the album’s latter half comes across as so-called semi-filler, but I disagree. Stand out tracks for me have always been We Could Run Away, Signature of Diving, The Heat, Washed By the Water, Looks Like Love, Second Chances and the magnificent Streets of Gold; which showcases my belief that the second half has nothing to it.

In fact, this is a pretty darn good pop rock/folk record and yes, of course, their love for Christian lyrics are present here and there, but it doesn’t actually feel like a so-called Christian record. But what it does do is add yet another brilliant level of musicality to what was already a magnificent album.

Live From The Woods Vol. 2 was recorded during three sold-out, socially-distanced outdoor concerts at Pelham, Tennessee’s famed The Caverns on March 12, 13 and 14, 2021, and is a stellar, high-energy, and cathartic 15-track album. Once again available on vinyl, this release has been freshly cut by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl/Sam Phillips Recording Service, Memphis and has been pressed on Amber Wave vinyl.

This double live LP from NEEDTOBREATHE is pressed on Amber Wave vinyl, featuring songs from throughout the band’s career.

Live from the Woods Vol. 2 followed, obviously, NtB’s 2015 live album Live from the Woods Vol. 1 and continued to mark the band’s first concerts in front of a live audience since 2020. Deciding to invite local audiences to experience these unforgettable shows, they not only put on an incredible set of live performances, but they wisely chose to record them.

Inclusive of everything that their fans could ever want to hear from the band, along with a whole host of unexpected gems that must have lit up their faces with beaming smiles once they were started upon, the sets included electrifying performances of tracks from the platinum-selling group’s catalog along with cuts from their chart-topping new album Out of Body, and more.

Without a doubt, they are one of music’s best kept secrets, perhaps even to this day, but that has to change because what you get with them - whether it be live or via a studio album - is an incredible musical experience for all the family to enjoy. To see them in front of a massive crowd bringing the energy is an incredible spectacle but seeing them in an intimate setting for their acoustic shows must have been an amazing visual and audio experience also. And these recordings just highlight that perfectly.
