For those unaware, Western Massachusetts musician, songwriter, poet, producer, and world-builder Kimaya Diggs has shared “Plants (Still Grow),” the latest single from her forthcoming album Green, out October 2nd, 2026.

Kimaya Diggs | Plants (still grow)

“Plants (Still Grow)” is a love letter to New England summer and the kind of intimacy that can make a place feel briefly, unmistakably like home. Inspired by the lush greens and rivers surrounding Diggs’ house on the rural side of town, “Plants (Still Grow)” brings one of Green’s central questions into focus: does belonging come from knowing the land around you, or from the people you choose to build a life with?

“So much of Green explores the concept of home: does a sense of belonging come from intimately knowing the land that you inhabit, or does it come from the people you surround yourself with?” Diggs says. “For me, it’s a little of both, and it oscillates over time: my sense of community evolves.”

“When I think of the album as a whole, I imagine my backyard, where most of the music video was filmed,” she continues. “I see the black walnut tree, the jewelweed, pokeweed, wild lettuce, and so much more. The fireflies that I’ve worked hard to cultivate a habitat for, and the red squirrels. It’s a place I know like the back of my hand, and a source of endless joy and peace.”

“Plants (Still Grow)” follows previously released Green singles “I Know That I’m Perfect” and “Dance With Me” and together, the singles begin to reveal the emotional range and sonic richness of Green, a 13-song collection of glittering, genre-bending indie pop carried by Diggs’ powerful, honeyed vocals and attentive lyricism.

The album follows her 2023 LP Quincy, as well as the 2024 singles “I’m Sad Again” and “Everything Is Not Lost.” Where Quincy was tied closely to grief, caregiving, and the losses that reshaped Diggs’ life, Green begins somewhere different. It begins with questions.

“Emotionally, it began with a question of belonging and of goodness,” Diggs says. “Where do I belong as a person? And how can I be good enough? How can my values be reflected in the way that I live?”

On what is a most glorious love letter to the New England summer, and to the people and places that teach us how to grow, Kimaya opens up her new recording on the soulfully engaging I Know That I’m Perfect and the touchingly tender No It’s Not Enough, then comes the emotively stirring balladry of All The Way Through (featuring Jess Nolan), and then the dulcet harmonic piano piece Rehearsal: It Isn’t That I Miss You, with the richly veined CD and Bandcamp exclusive Little Sister and the smooth R&B-grooved Dance With Me both up next.

Along next is the upbeat, joyful pop and soul-hued brilliance of the thoroughly enjoyable Compare Myself To Myself and the lushly orchestrated I Want To Live!!, and they are in turn backed seamlessly by the veritably spoken-word elegance of A Sense Of Place (featuring Lizzie No), the happy-go-lucky vibe of Plants (Still Grow) and the adorably impassioned resonance of Too Much To Ask, the set rounding out on the beautifully breezy A Love That Lasts, coming to a close on the souled out, jazz-hued refinement of Daylight.
