Title - Cosmolamps
Artist - Rintaro Mikami
For those unaware, Cosmolamps (out November 6th, 2026 via Outside In Music) is drummer and composer Rintaro Mikami’s second album, a meditative exploration of time, memory, and the fleeting beauty of everyday moments.
Built around three variations on the title theme Time, representing past, present, and future, the record unfolds with lyrical compositions and sensitive, exploratory ensemble playing.
Mikami leads a tight-knit group through music that is both intimate and expansive, drawing on a decade of life in New York and a childhood shaped by the landscapes of southern Japan. The result is a quietly ambitious jazz record about how small, personal moments gather into something larger and shared.

With his debut album First Fish (2023) having been inspired by his childhood experiences living on a small island in south Japan, Rintaro opens his sophomore album on the upbeat and joyful title cut Cosmolamps, the effortless, smoothly lush elegance of Time (Dive), the playfully hued Obsession, and then we are gifted the more strident fare of the uproarious You Are Now.
Along next is a confidently hipsway that threads throughout the wonderful Time which is itself backed seamlessly by the veritably impish The Land of Shoji, the low slung, dulcetly ambient Guide of An Abyssal Ladder, the new set rounding out on the dutifully sculpted Time (Foreseen), coming to a close on the robustly crafted, soulfully melodious A Blink Through Train Windows.
As a sideman, Mikami has performed at leading New York jazz venues such as Ornithology Jazz Club, The Django, Nublu 151, and Terraza 7, while also participating in numerous bands and projects both in Japan and abroad. He has collaborated with many musicians, including Jon Cowherd, Davis Whitfield, Takuya Kuroda, Simón Willson, Neta Raanan, Steve Ash and more.
In 2025, he joined the dream pop band Bubble Tea and Cigarettes as a support drummer for their We Should’ve Loved Each Other World Tour 2025. He is also a member of “Meadowlands,” an electronic duo project led by bassist Sean Hannon.
In February 2023, he participated as a percussionist in the U.S. tour of Slovak singer Ester Wiesnerova. He is also active as a member of the Carlin Lee Wind Symphony Project, performing with the Eastern Wind Symphony Orchestra in February 2024. In addition, he has contributed to recordings by various artists, including Lily Blu and Aki Gorai.
