Title - 'Instant Funk (Expanded Edition)'
Artist - Instand Funk

My goodness, this big, bad funk ensemble from Philly was Bunny Sigler's band before becoming disco superstars themselves with the million-selling 'I Got My Mind Made Up.'

Instant Funk came out of New Jersey consisting of Raymond Earl, Scotty Miller and guitarist Kim Miller. The group was then called The Music Machine. I mean, sure they started life as a backing band for Sigler and the Manhattans, but even then they were so much more ready to burst out and chart attack! But after Sigler and before 'I Got My Mind Made Up' they also worked with The O’Jays, Archie Bell & the Drells, the Three Degrees, Dexter Wansell, Evelyn "Champagne” King and so many more!

Instant Funk, the album is a great album from a great band with very funky and tight dance grooves. Having gone on to release seven albums between 1976 and 1983, Cherry Red Records (under BBR) has now re-released the classic album in a deluxe Super Jewel case, with three bonus tracks!

The album starts with the big hit, 'I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl),' and funks into 'Crying,' (the follow up single which peaked at #20 in the R&B chart), the slow ballad trip of 'Never Let It Go Away' and both the dancefloor hit 'Don't You Wanna Party' and the piano-inspired 'Wide World of Sports.'

The seven minute long 'Dark Vader' is a trip all of its own, before the original album comes to a close with both 'You Say You Want Me To Stay' and the also-seven-minutes-long 'I'll Be Doggone.' The expanded songs kick in now with a 12" Remix of 'I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl),' then a 12" Version of 'Crying,' before a 7" Single Version of 'I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl).' This newly-expanded CD is then rounded out by another version of 'Crying' (7" Single Version) and an interesting Patrick Stapley Remix of 'Dark Vader.' Chock full of spooky voices, comic-book lyrics and funky hooks, it's probably the perfect way to bring this great CD to a close - until you start playing it all over again, of course!
