Title - 'Lyao' (CD/DVD) (Warner Bros.)
Artist - Arj Barker
You probably know Arj Barker as having appeared on several television comedy shows since his 1997 appearance on Premium Blend. That said, most of his appearances are late-night shows such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Glass House. He also has had his own Comedy Central Presents episode on two occasions, but is also most famously known for his character "Dave" on HBO's Flight of the Conchords.
'LYAO' was performed live at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis, MN with the subsequent special airing on Comedy Central earlier this January. In this special Arj tackles subjects like tolerance of others, traveling, women and relationships, doctors, global warming, Pluto's non-planetary status, texting - and that's only the first 20 minutes!
Indeed, Barker further covers the gamut from religion to politics to bath supplies and the shallow nature of folks living in Los Angeles. His greatest moments on 'LYAO' result from his ability to re-direct a crowd at a moment's notice. Barker sets up the listen deftly time and time again, pulling the rug out from beneath you each time.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Sickest Buddhist (3:23) is an original Arj rap and video about a hip-hop funky Buddhist.
Doomerang (4:20) is a short film, focusing on a character (Australian Boomerang-throwing instructor/mentor) of Arj's.
