'Top Gear 18'
(Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Richard Hammond, et al / 3-Disc DVD / NR / 2012 / BBC Video)

Overview: In season 18 of the world's most extreme car show, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May visit India as they attempt to promote British trade armed only with three old cars, a badly behaved lawnmower and a trouser press!

DVD Verdict: Let's be perfectly honest here, if you are a 'Top Gear' fan (of the BRITISH TV show, not that stupid, lame, dull American version!) you will not be disappointed with this latest season. Just for the trip they make to India it is worth the viewing admission alone! And, as usual, there are explosions, disasters, and shining examples of teamwork ... like abandoning a host with a broken-down car!

This brilliant Season 18 of 'Top Gear' begins with the India Special. Our trio of heoroes travel across India to promote the UK ... quite why is beyond me, but it must have seemed like a good idea at the time! Funnily enough, the opening sequence of the show shows the 'Top Gear' team in Downing Street opening a letter by Prime Minister David Cameron. he actually REFUSED their request to go to India on an official trade mission! His exact words, which are filmed separately and obviously added in after, are "Stay away from India!"

But, despite this, they still go to India!

Jeremy Clarkson chooses to drive in a Jaguar XJS, James May in a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Richard Hammond in a Mini Cooper. Of course, why not?!

Easily my favorite part of this whole India affair was in Delhi where their mission was to host a trade fair. Hosted in the exclusive embassy quarter Chanakyapuri it really hits the crapper when a massive firework set up by Clarkson goes badly wrong and explodes into the building where the fair was being hosted!! I kid you not. But, it gets worse! This then causes the guests to leave VERY quickly. So, before a badly behaved lawnmower and a trouser press can get introduced to said dignities at the event, as they try to leave they quickly find that they cannot do so - because when Hammond parked their cars, he simply threw the keys into a bucket and could not remember whose key was whose!

I couldn't make this up if I tried, honestly!

After all that mayhem, the series continues with 7 more episodes that include: filming a car chase for a movie, a look at China's car industry, a Supercar trip to Italy, a test of Track cars, a look at Chris Evan's (UK TV and Radio host) collection of Ferraris, Richard's foray into NASCAR, and much more.

The celebrity interviews in this season include Matt LeBlanc, Will.i.am, Ryan Reynolds, Slash and Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen. With 7 episodes plus a special this was the most action packed season of 'Top Gear' in many a year. In the bonus features there's also an episode of the American 'Top Gear' - but, truly, just forget about it, honestly! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
