'Flashforward: Season One Pt.1'
(Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Sonya Walger, Courtney B. Vance, Dominic Monaghan, et al / 2-Disc DVD / PG-13 / (2009) 2010 / ABC Studios)

Overview: Experience the nonstop action, excitement, and drama of the first ten episodes of the critically-acclaimed 'FlashForward' and get set for television's best new show to grab hold of you from its first explosive moment!

DVD Verdict: OK, to get all the factul elements out the way here first, 'FlashForward' is a science-fiction (kinda-sorta) TV series that premiered on ABC in late September of last year. Running only 10 episodes, ABC (annoyingly, even at the time) then placed the show on hiatus until March 4 this year - explaining the break would allow the show to run the remaining 14 episodes uninterrupted; as well as avoid competition with the 2010 Winter Olympics!

Which all means that if you a) watched all 10 episodes back then you've kinda forgotten some key plot elements (think missing one episode of 'Lost' and heading back into the week after and you'll get my drift!) and b) if you watched them all now like I just did) all back-to-back on DVD, you are going NUTS waiting for the upcoming 14 episodes to unfold ... it's just that frickin' good!

'FlashForward' is loosely based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Canadian science fiction writer Robert J. Sawyer. In our TV version, a mysterious event causes nearly everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for 137 seconds, during which people see what appear to be visions of their lives approximately six months in the future — a global “flashforward”.

A team of Los Angeles FBI agents, led by Stanford Wedeck (Vance) and spearheaded by Mark Benford (Fiennes), begin the process of determining what happened, why, and whether it will happen again. Benford contributes a unique perspective on the investigation; in his flashforward, he saw the results of six months of investigation that he had done on the flashforward event, and he and his team use those clues to recreate the investigation.

The team investigates a number of events related to the flashforward, including "Suspect Zero", who did not lose consciousness during the event, the sinister "D. Gibbons", and a similar mass loss of consciousness in Somalia in 1991.

Meanwhile, personal revelations contained within the flashforwards occupy the personal lives of the principal characters. Mark Benford sees his alcoholism relapsing, his wife sees herself with another man, and other characters grapple with similarly unexpected or surprising revelations in their flashforwards.

Now, with all that said, and before you get too attached to this series, you should be aware that the ratings dropped week by week, causing ABC to pull it and make their statement (see above). And yes, it will be returning next month, BUT if I had to guess I would say that due to it having been too long off the air, that we'll see three (3) new episodes aired before it gets yanke donce again ... the remaining episodes all straight-to-DVD some 6 weeks later.

Oh, and as for that 'Lost' moment I mentioned above, well, as irony would have it, Sonya Walger (who played "Penny" on 'Lost') here plays lead man Joseph Fiennes' wife, and Dominic Monaghan ("Charlie Pace" on 'Lost') stars here in a wonderful, vaudevillesque villainous role! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with Special Features of:
