'Neighbor (Unrated Director's Cut)'
(America Olivo, Christian Campbell, Mink Stole, Pete Postiglione, Lauren Rooney, et al / DVD / NR / 2010 / LGF)

Overview: A mysterious new girl arrives in a posh suburban neighborhood and quickly sets out to terrorize the town!

DVD Verdict: Well, 'Neighbor' is one of those movies that comes attached (once viewed) with the label of 'torture-porn' ... and yup, if ever there was, this film suits that noted genre. And, let's be honest, the actual film doesn't require any deeper analysis - and as disjointed a film as it truly is, it does keep you watching throughout.

The characters in 'Neighbor' are not allowed to wallow in any depth, most don't make sense as characters, their flaws shallow, B-movie class, and in some cases, plain annoying. And sure, the special effects are cheap, and sure some nasty torture moments on the leads body come and go from shot to shot, BUT the fact that there are some very over-the-top, hide your eyes torture moments means that this film will meet its core viewership head on!

America Olivo as 'The Girl' is just perfect for the role, but as she has a lovely rack (pardon me), why doesn't she get to reveal it more? I mean, this is torture-porn, so why not give us the porn side of things? Anyway, she has perfect timing and delivery when required, and it's obvious her own (character, that is) personal pain, her childhood emotional scarring isn't buried that deeply within her.

So yes, I wanted more from this film, but what writer/director Robert Angelo Masciantonio (and star here, as he is the news reporter on TV) has done is craft a movie where you kinda still manage to feel sorry for the characters. Not all of them, as the acting is so shallow they could walk out of the mess themselves, but the lead (Christian Campbell) needs saving soooo badly you do feel so bad for him come the end! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

Commentary with Director Robert Angelo Masciantonio and Producer St. John Smith III
Commentary with Dr. Karen Oughton
