'American Dad Vol. 5'
(Seth MacFarlane, Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Dee Bradley Baker, et al / DVD / NR / 2010 / 20th Century Fox)

Overview: God bless “American Dad!” Volume 5 – the hilariously over-the-top adventures of CIA Agent Stan Smith, a red, white and blue-blooded, one-man war on terror, and his delightfully dysfunctional family. Volume 5 celebrates that great American pastime: revenge.

DVD Verdict: 'American Dad' has become somewhat of a toon in a place all it's own as of late. By this I mean it has managed to establish itself as clearly "Not Family Guy" - and that to me is what separates it from the rest. You have funny/misunderstood/over exaggerated characters in a pretty simple environment, yet unusual circumstances that allows hilarity to ensue.

Stan, his dim-witted narcissism is a case in point. He's over exaggerated in that respect, but this is what gives him his self assured holier then thou bigger then life nature/personality.

Ok, away from Psychoanalyzing and moving on and is this fifth series any better then the rest of them? Well yes, and no. Yes it is better because in this series we get way more variety, a good number of episodes (14 in all), and a bonus disc of "Peter: Best bits Uncensored." So this alone gives it two thumbs up from me. I mean, these are inclusive of things that never aired on FOX - both the episodes and, of course, the f-bombs!

"Phantom Of The Telethon" and "Roy Rogers Mcfreely" are worth the price of admission alone, I would say, along with some other episodes - but their names escape me, sorry!

Season 2 and 3 have some of the greatest episodes ever ("Roger n'Me")(Roger and Stan get high) but the only thing missing from this series that would make it perfect would be the "Armageddon Future" episode - which was, in my humble opinion, the best episode in the history of 'American Dad.'

I really hope they do more like that one, it was not only so humorous on so many levels but epic. Hopefully there will be more series' of this funny/twisted show. For any fan this is a must-have product! [EA] This is a Widescreen Presentation (2.35:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
