'The Jolly Boys Last Stand'
(Andy Serkis, Sacha Baron Cohen, Milo Twomey, et al / DVD / R / (2000) 2006 / Spirit Level Films)

Overview: Andy Serkis ('Lord of the Rings,' 'King Kong'), Sacha Baron Cohen ('Ali G'), Milo Twomey ('Band of Brothers') and Rebecca Craig ('Casualty,' 'Emma') star in this recently discovered remarkable British comedy. 'The Jolly Boys Last Stand' - a unique and unforgettable show of their raw talent. When El President of the Jolly Boys, Spider (Serkis) gets engaged, his oldest friend, confirmed bachelor and appointed best man, Des (Twomey), sees the end of the legendary drinking club. 'The Jolly Boys Last Stand' is a must own DVD to get 2006 off to a side-splitting start.

DVD Verdict: The story revolves around a group of "Lads". The "leader" of this group of twenty somethings starts to head away the group's usual juvenile direction and head into career and marriage pursuits. The Best Man decides to create a video of the friends as a wedding present. In reality the video is supposed to help bring the leader back into the fold. The Jolly Boys are essentially a group of drinking buddies with more than a few relationship issues, but isn't that true to life in itself?! And, by making this ultimate wedding video in an aloof attempt to entice the leader back to the gang, 'The Jolly Boys Last Stand' provides entertainment and so much more. Great acting and production by names I'd not heard of before (excepting "Ali G") and a really funny, mature script all lead to a very enjoyable hour and a half. Why this has taken so bloody long to come out on DVD is anybody's guess!! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

Original Cast Auditions
Directors/Cast Commentary.
