'The King Of Queens - 8th Season'
(Kevin James, Leah Remini, Jerry Stiller, et al / 3-Disc DVD / NR / (1998) 2007 / Sony Pictures)

Overview: Taking place in Rego Park, Queens, New York, a blue-collar married couple, Doug, a deliveryman, and Carrie, a secretary at a law firm, who both live with Carrie's oddball father, Arthur, try to make the best of what they got while trying to make their marriage somewhat normal and getting through tiny problems that they have together, even the occasional run-in with Carrie's father.

DVD Verdict: In the sitcom 'The King of Queens,' comedian Kevin James has created a new archetype: the sensitive lug. This deceptively simple comedy bounces along because delivery man Doug Heffernen (James), though completely a guy's guy, constantly struggles to keep the world around him in a delicate emotional balance. Meanwhile, his wife Carrie (Leah Remini), though utterly feminine (and one of the sexiest women on television), uses the kind of no-nonsense rational approach that's usually a man's province. Add to this mix Carrie's father Arthur (Jerry Stiller), whose life as a fussy, self-absorbed retiree makes him more like their child than an adult, and you've got the building blocks for an excellent and durable show.

This is a value packed, well-priced, three disc DVD set that has the entire 8th season of this very funny show, including all 23 episodes of the hilarious show. Fans of Kevin James, Leah Remini, and Jerry Stiller will be in seventh heaven with this new box-set. The show is sort of an updated "Honeymooners" and an absolute laugh riot. It is definitely a keeper and well worth having in one's collection.

In this latest collection from the 8th season, Doug and Carie try pole-dancing, but with differing results; Doug has a sudden interest in personal grooming and causes Carrie to investigate; Arthur brings home a set of sheets from a motel, along with thousands of bed bugs; Doug and Carrie find that a quaint bed and breakfast might be a little too rustic; and many, many more laughs ... and great guest stars including Kirstie Alley, Ray Romano and even rock star Huey Lewis! Again, the casting is perfect. The series is very funny with well-written scripts and excellent performances by its very talented cast. What more can a viewer ask for? This is an excellent, value laden, three disc DVD set. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with no Special Features.
