'Ronald Reagan: An American Journey'
(Ronald Reagan, et al / DVD / NR / 2011 / IMAGE Entertainment)

Overview: Experience the astonishing political career of one of the most influential and popular political figures of the past three decades with this in-depth look at Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States.

DVD Verdict: In celebration of the just-honored 100th birthday of the 40th President of the United States, Image Entertainment have released a well-deserved, well-documented DVD that tells the sale of the great man himself: 'Ronald Reagan: An American Journey.'

Produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Robert Kline, the new documentary features a collection of Reagan's speeches. Included in these selections are Reagan informing citizens of the next steps their government would take in the wake of events like he Cold War, the Solidarity Movement, Pan Am 103 and the Challenger disaster.

They, and the others included (Iran-Contra, the candle in the White House window) are as mesmerizing to me/us today as they were back then. His cold, steel-eyed stare at the camera, his facial expression always solid, and yet always sorrowful a tribute to the man, the actor, the President he once was.

Basically, and as you would expect, the film follows Reagan's political rise from a Californian governor to his last day as the president of the United States. Indeed, Reagan was unique because he was an equally great communicator to his friends as well as his adversaries. In one poetic at-the-platform speech, he gives us a speech about voting, asking of us only one thing: to consider if we are better off now than we were four years ago. Of course, no, we weren't, and he knew that, but the way he asked for our votes was subtle, unfeathered. And, of course, Reagan won in a landslide of voting!

He had a major desire, as part of a running thread here, to eliminate the nuclear weapons of the Soviet Union. Something, as shown, he never backed down from or tried to avoid within his time in office.

In conclusion, in a time when America was searching for a giant to lead us, the country; nay, the world, turned to Ronald Reagan. Thus, 'Ronald Reagan: An American Journey' is a rewarding look back at the political life of one of America's greatest giants. This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.33:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
