'The Glades: The Complete First Season'
(Matt Passmore, Alexis Windsor, Kiele Sanchez, Carlos Gómez, Jordan Wall, et al / 4-Disc DVD / NR / 2011 / 20th Century Fox)

Overview: Matt Passmore stars as Jim Longworth a no nonsense Chicago detective who relocates to Florida anticipating plenty of sunshine golf and easy living. What he finds however is a caseload swamped with murder. As the investigator relies on experience instinct and forensic science to crack baffling cases he pursues the affections of a pretty quick witted medical student.

DVD Verdict: Jim Longworth (Matt Passmore - an Australian doing an A+ American accent!), a hot, smart, new cop in central Florida. Is the headless body murder or just hungry gators? Longworth is a golfer with normal ability. He's much better with women and crime investigation.

This new A&E crime, homicide, cop drama is American fresh, laced with comedy and a bit of romance. I highly recommend it. Jam-packed with murder, humor, and love, coupled with glorious Florida locations, this show should run for many, many years (fingers crossed).

As for the rest of the cast, they consist of: Callie Cargill (Kiele Sqanchez); Carlos Sanchez (Carlos Gomez); Callie's son Jeff (Uriah Shelton); and Daniel Green (Jordan Wall). Then Randy Cromwell (Alexis Martinez), a new detective, & Colleen Manus (Michelle Hurd).

1. Pilot - The pilot opens by showing us Jim Longworth's (Matt Passmore) quirky side as he wades into a swamp with no shoes on, and only a golf club for a weapon against any crocs! He finds one, or should we say one finds him, and he escapes - but (kinda) learns his lesson! Also, it should be noted that this one, and only episode stars John Carroll Lynch ('Gran Tornino') as his cop partner. Indeed, it is he who utters the sums-it-up line: "You act like a clown and you treat the job like an inconvenience." This episode has an incredible, did NOT see it coming in the slightest twist ending!

2. Bird in the Hand - Longworth gets handed a new police partner and falls for a hot surfer chick ... who could be up to her pretty neck in a smuggling ring! 3. A Perfect Storm - A catergory 4 hurricane hits town and spree killings pop up all over the place ... but are they linked? 4. Mucked Up - After the burning of a sugar can field, not to mention some bunny chasing, a dead body is found. The Mudd Bowl's best player is put in the frame for it as it turns out to be his father!

5. The Girlfriend Experience - Longworth's new partner is killed, or, well, is he?! A jigsaw of an episode to put together here, but comes complete with another great twist ending. 6. Doppelganger - A young girl gets shot out back of a bar, and the guy who tries to come to her rescue gets shot too - and then becomes the prime suspect for the killing! Sadly, who really did it is obvious halfway through! 7. Cassadaga - A psychic runs out of a reading because she sees the death of a man down the street. Longworth and company now have to enter into Cassadaga, a small town packed with mediums and psychics to discover the real truth.

8. Marriage is Murder - A man is killed and dumped at a motel and it turns out a bunch of people wanted him dead! In much the same vein as Murder On The Orient Express, the episode is at first a slow burner but gets going eventually. 9. Honey - A death at a casino and the subsequent stealing of prized musical memorabilia means Longsworth has to tread of tribal land to investigate. So when a guitar owned by the late Blues man Robert Johnson is the main thing stolen, he hooks up with a pretty young tribal police officer to solve the crime. 10. Second Chance - A young man dies in a pool, but was he drowned or was it an accident? With the main plot connected to racing and stables therein, the identity of the killer is obvious a quarter of the way through, sorry!

11. Booty - A dead body washes up and we get an episode about sunken treasure and the lengths/depths those that think they know about it will sink to (all puns intended!) This episode also stars the great William Atherton ('Die Hard') as a ship captain who loves his booze! Trust me, this is a fun, fun, FUN adventure, made so by the aforementioned Atherton. 12. Exposed - A senator is caught having a late night bit on the side, but is in the spotlight for murder when she dies in front of the building thereafter! With the episode one long advert for the new Kia (car), this is another slow burner, but comes with a great twist ending! Finally, lucky 13. Breaking 80 - Is the story of a man found beaten on a golf course. A nice, well put together final episode this, that ends on the 'cliff hanger' of whether or not Longworth's "relatonship" with Callie Cargill (Kiele Sqanchez) can go any further - based on the news her (still) husband is getting out of jail early now!
