'A Good Man Is Hard to Find'
(Darius McCrary, Deborah Cox, Joe Torry, et al / DVD / PG-13 / 2008 / 20th Century Fox)
Overview: Based on the musical stage play of the same name, A Good Man Is Hard to Find, is the story of three women who each undergo romantic crises that challenge their personal and spiritual relationships. Each must overcome personal demons, resist temptations and withstand bad decisions so they can learn how to find and hold on to, a good man.
DVD Verdict: I'm sorry, but this movie lacked the hype I expected. I think the director took away the talent these true actors and actresses had to offer. But then again most of CodeBlack entertainment films are poor in quality and production.
The film stars Golden Brooks, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Hill Harper, R&B singer Deborah Cox and Melissa De Sousa and is the adaptation of the 1990s gospel stage play. The story concerns three women who each undergo romantic and spiritual crises. The stage play logged more than 1,500 performances from 1991-96, according to Variety.
What can I say GOOD about this movie? Well, in truth only that this movie is incredible when Deborah Cox is on the screen! Well, her role anyway, perhaps not the supporting cast that let this film-newcomer down. It's good to see her in another movie. She is amazing and truly a vision ... and in my humble opinion the ONLY good thing to come out of this movie.
