'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit - Season 7'
(Mariska Hargitay, Chris Meloni, et al / 5-Disc DVD / NR / (1999) 2008 / Universal)

Overview: 'Law & Order - SVU' captivates viewers with its provocative and emotionally intense storylines ripped straight from today's headlines. Packed with first-class guest stars including Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden Dean Cain Brittany Snow Mark McGrath and more!

DVD Verdict: Mariska Hargitay gives the performance of her life this seventh season, especially in the episode 911. After the SVU team gets a disturbing call from a molested 9-year old girl, they are pitted against the clock and multiple dead ends as they try to find the girls location. Olivia (Hargitay) stays on the phone with the girl the entire time as detectives try to close in on the victim.

After being nominated in 2003, 2004, and 2005; in 2006 (Season 7) Mariska Hargitay finally won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She was also nominated in 2007. Chris Meloni was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in Season 7, but did not win. If nothing else, the multiple award recognitions plus the already outstanding reputation of the series should stand as a testament to its greatness.

I think this season was one of my favorite of the whole series and I am a die-hard SVU fan. Even though I can watch the reruns on USA Network, I had been waiting (very) patiently for this season to be released. This season offered more tension between Olivia and Elliot than any of the others and it also showed more of what made Elliot, Elliot.

To my mind the show has concentrated on the character of Olivia for so long I feel like I have a good grasp of her (and boy has she come a long way since the first episode). This season gave Christopher Meloni a chance to shine more. He is a great actor and deserves more credit. This season gives him the attention he deserves. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs but does not come with any Special Features.
