'Project Runway: Season Five'
(Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, et al / 4-Disc DVD / NR / 2009 / Weinstein Company)

Overview: Bravo's hit series is back for a fifth season with feisty hostess Heidi Klum, the ever-quotable Tim Gunn and an all-new slate of 16 designers on the rise. Natalie Portman, Sandra Bernhard and other fashion icons join the panel as guest judges.

DVD Verdict: Season Five of "Project Runway" is still fun and addictive entertainment like the previous seasons. I also agree with one of the reviewers that criticized Tim Gunn as a judge in the final runway show, couldn't they just choose one of the winners from the previous seasons, like Christian? He is the mentor and taskmaster, now he has to fill in as a judge also?

Season 5 contestants are an interesting mix, but I can think about some past seasons as a bit more sophisticated. Also you could guess who would be the winner, if you watch the show from the beginning, so there is less suspense compared to previous seasons.

The winning designer - who I won't reveal here - turns out to be very adept at architectural forms and exceedingly creative in the construction of her looks. Unfortunately, she is a truly unpleasant person, and I reacted to her negatively. Her faux-whimsy and annoying fairy princess manner did little to cover her amoral personality.

She was a sneaky whisperer throughout the season, quietly shit-talking behind the back of just about every other designer. Her win is understandable in terms of her ability as a designer; it's unfortunate that her lack personal integrity makes it so difficult for the viewer to enjoy.

Anyway, I watched all the seasons, I definitely hope the later seasons on Lifetime would be getting better. 'Project Runway' is still one of the best reality shows on TV. [XW] This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the following Special Features:
