'Hawaii Five-O: The Second Season' [Blu-ray]
(Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Grace Park, Daniel Dae Kim, et al / 5-Disc Blu ray / NR / 2012 / Paramount-CBS)

Overview: Carrie Mathison (Golden Glober winner Claire Danes), a brilliant but volatile CIA agent, suspects that a rescued American POW may not be what he seems. Is Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody_(Damian Lewis) a war hero...or an Al Qaeda sleeper agent plotting a spectacular terrorist attack on U.S. soil?

Blu ray Verdict: As a HUGE fan of the original 'Hawaii Five-O' (aka Jack Lord) I was thrilled when they remade the show and couldn't wait until Monday night to watch it. And, in truth, Season One rocked. However, and for my own reasons, come the second episode of Season Two (as the opener tied up loose "cliffhanger" ends and got them back on their original paths) it all fell apart!

I have no idea who thought Lauren German was the right person to add to the cast (when it should just be the original four anyway), because she was as exciting to view as watching paint dry! I can think of a thousand other actresses who would have done a much better job and who would have actually had chemistry with the main stars.

But, and because of Alex, Grace, Scott, and Daniel I continued to watch the show. In more truth, because I kept hoping someone would come to their senses and kill off Lori Weston (Lauren)! Sorry, Lauren! Anyway, all the best lines that should have been Grace's (seemingly) went to Lauren. Oh, and that's right, there was nothing she couldn't do! It was ridiculous, sorry (again).

OK, the LG rant is over! And so, it took me a while, but once she was gone the show started to get back to what I liked about it in the first place. The guest stars were awesome. I so hope they bring back Scott Caan's dad James, because he just nailed his role (as you would have fully expected, of course!). Alex missed a couple of episodes and he was so sorely missed script wise too. He is definitely the riveting glue that holds this crew together on screen.

In closing, well, this is modern-day TV at its finest. Visually, stylistically, and dramatically perfect on all levels, this Second Season only enhances the promise (once LG departed!) of the first. And thankfully, it truly looks like 'Hawaii Five-0' is here to stay. And yes, this Blu-ray offers excellent video and audio qualities in addition to a host of supplemental content. And so, hopefully come Season Three they will get better writers and we can get the show rocking like it did in Season One. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs, and has been remastered into a crisp Blu ray production.
