'Castle - The Complete Fifth Season'
(Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, Jon Huertas, Seamus Dever, Tamala Jones, et al / 5-Disc DVD / NR / 2013 / ABC Studios)

Overview: Together at last! After four seasons of sparring and heated banter, TV's dynamic crime-solving team finds romance in ABC's 'Castle: The Complete Fifth Season.' Relive all 23 unforgettable episodes, complete with never-before-seen bonus features only available on DVD, in this spectacular five-disc set.

DVD Verdict: In the opening episode, 'After The Storm,' and after four looooooong seasons of "will they" or "won't they," Richard Castle and Kate Beckett finally gave in to each other! And yes, it works out, for the most part for the entire season, so have no fears, all ye doubters!

Sure, along the way there are routine episodes where the killer is hardly unguessable. But there are a few with added twists amongst the red herrings, don't worry! But my favorite episode has to be the one (whose titles now escapes me, of course) where the detectives have to solve the murder of a young woman found floating in a rooftop water-container. While her neighbors in the low-rent building all think she must have been a prostitute, it turns out that the girl is actually an honors student at Harvard. She was supposed to be in Europe, not living in squalid conditions.

It's only when the girl is also revealed to be a computer hacker that the case begins to make a little sense. Her computer records point the police to a law firm, and a lawyer with whom she was in contact. But that lawyer turns up dead (and murdered) as well.

When the only connection between the dead student and the law firm turns out to be an old friend who had interned there - and who then suddenly died in a mysterious car crash - the whole thing turns into a plot John Grisham would be proud of.

In the end, it turns out that ... ahhh, come on now, that wouldn't be fair! Anyway, a great twist ending that had us ALL guessing incorrectly from start to finish.

And with all TV show finales, there are some finales that make your heart skip a beat out of shock and others that fall so flat that you break your nose! Luckily for us, The 'Castle' season 5 finale entitled 'Watershed' was one of the former. Indeed, after an hour of a relatively straightforward murder case and a whole lot of soul-searching, Castle and Beckett ended the season on the swings. Caught between the cross hairs, the inevitable happened: Castle proposed to Beckett. But with the knowledge that a sniper could take her at any time, how will season 6 progress?

In closing, when it comes to investing in a TV series it's a crime if you don't with 'Castle.' From the major crime plot, to the sub-text this show is at the top of its game. And the chemistry between Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic is electrifying. (BTW, I loved her as the Vampire Heroyn in installment three of The Librarian!). Side-bars, humour, mystery and love, this show has it all. They are truly my favorite partners in crime and should, by now be yours also! These are all widescreen Presentations (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

“Lot Cops” - Featurette with Seamus & Jon
Deleted Scenes From Season 5
Season 5 Bloopers
Martha Rodgers’ Master Class Featurette
