'Dead Before Dawn'
(Devon Bostick, Christopher Lloyd, Martha MacIsaac, et al / DVD / R / 2013 / Vivendi Entertainment)
Overview: A horde of Zombie Demons, ZEMONS are unleashed on the world after college kids unwittingly create an evil curse. This curse causes everyone that they make eye contact with to kill themselves and turn into ZEMONS!
DVD Verdict: In truth, the first 20 to 30 minutes of this interestingly-created movie were a bit slow. But, that said, it's all fun on the go, for sure! But once the 40 minute mark is hit, well, hold on to your hats, boys and girls!
OK, for those not in the know, the basic premise involves a group of college kids fighting off the "Zemon" menace. Main character Casper Galloway (played by 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid's' Devon Bostick) is the grandson of Horus Galloway (Played by Christopher Lloyd), the owner of a store called Occult Barn.
When Casper agrees to watch the store while the elder Galloway steps out to grab something, his friends accidentally unleash a curse that turns its victims into "zemons"! This new curse then spreads itself from person-to-person either via eye-contact with Casper and his friends after 10pm or hickeys from the already infected!
Yes, yes, I know, I know - but give it a chance, trust me! Anyway, the "Zemons" can be turned into your personal slaves if you seduce them with a French Kiss! Soooooo, not all bad, me thinks! Oh, and needless to say that this movie's charm comes from the fact that it doesn't take itself the least bit seriously!
And, of course, there is a cure for having been turned into one of these "Zemons", but you have to locate it and apply it within 24 hours of being infect! Anyway, this movie is highly recommended. It is goofy, cheesy, funny, and great to watch with a group of friends. If what I just typed doesn't immediately turn you off, go watch 'Dead Before Dawn'!
