'Hit & Miss'
(Chloe Sevigny, et al / 3-Disc DVD / NR / (2012) 2013 / BFS Entertainment)

Overview: In this six-part British drama, Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Chloe Sevigny (American Horror Story, Big Love) portrays Mia, a coldly efficient contract killer with a secret: she is a pre-operative transgender woman.

DVD Verdict: I actually came across this UK TV series by accident - happy accident, as it turns out. Because wow, what an incredible, thought-provoking, deep TV show, for sure. I couldn't believe what I had stumbled on so I am so happy that I get to review it for you now, here on just-released BFS Entertainment DVD.

I have to say, for as much as I don't want to reveal the big reveal, that it has been talked about for ages now. So, it is no surprise that the biggest shocker here isn't the fact that Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Chloe Sevigny puts on such a believable English accent you wouldn't believe for a second she was American! Nope, it's the fact that her character, as a mother, is also a transgender one. Indeed, this transgender hit man, who has to deal with her characters dual roles is riveting to watch from the very start.

So, after a young life where she never quite fitted in, Mia's life is turned upside down when she receives a letter from her ex, Wendy, who reveals that she's dying from cancer - and that when they were together (as man and woman) Mia fathered a son, 11-year-old Ryan. Now Mia is his legal guardian - and having fallen under the wing of Eddie, an underworld linchpin, a cool, calm and brilliant assassin!

'Hit and Miss' is one of the most unique, interesting, and quirky series I've come across. Great characters, great storyline, at times shocking, horrifying, and touching. I don't know if there will be a second series, although I truly hope so, but the cliffhanger ending does pave the way for a second series, for sure. These are all Full Screen Presentations (1:77.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
