'In The Flesh'
(Emily Bevan, Harriet Cains, Steve Cooper, et al / DVD / PG-13 / 2013 / BBC Video)

Overview: After an event known as "The Rising," where everybody who died in the year 2015 has risen from the dead, an inevitable Zombie war breaks out as the human race battles to rid the planet of brain eating Zombies. When the war is eventually won by the living with heavy losses on both sides, the remaining undead are headed up and put in a holding center where Norfolk, now ravaged and destroyed by war, used to be.

DVD Verdict: I have to say this is rather a wonderful, and fresh take on the whole zombie concept. Indeed, just when I thought I'd seen everything one could do with zombies, someone came up with an unexpected twist! And what is that twist, I hear you ask? Well, that twist is that there is a cure for zombies, aka "the partially deceased", as the government calls them!

The UK government has come up with an utterly socialist way to deal with these new "people". In truth, this part is so droll and ironic that you might miss it if not attuned to the nuances of this show. The whole of government apparatus springs into bureaucratic action with the reintroduction of them into society, supporting them as the newest "recovery group."

But, of course, they must be given daily shots so as not to revert. And so there is a case worker assigned to each family which is reintegrating a "PD" into their family household. But, low and behold there is also a vigilante movement (ie: a basic, generic grouping of the requisite rednecks) which want to execute these PDs. There is even an underground movement you can find online of those who hate being PDs and combine together to resume full zombiehood!

Anywa, please, please watch this fantastic; and so emotional new take on zombies for yourself. For not only will you find yourself on the side of the PDs, but you'll be compelled to watch as the family members begin taking the PDs back to reintegrate into the nuclear family. To become, once and for all, "a normal working class family," as one father says/wishes. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:85.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
