'The Castle Project'
Various / DVD / NR / 2013 / Cinema Libre)

Overview: 'The Castle Project' is a gripping feature-length documentary exploring the hauntings, history and renovation of the historic Croke Patterson Mansion in Denver, Colorado.

DVD Verdict: 'The Castle Project' is not what I sat down and expected to watch, in truth. Not that it was too many steps away from my expectations, but I'd watched too many 'Ghost Hunters' shows, that's all!

Anyway, this is a feature-length documentary that centers around the unexplained, supposedly previously unexplored hauntings, history and renovation of the historic Croke Patterson Mansion in Denver, Colorado.

As the narration progresses we learn that the castle's 120 year history and folklore is filled with tragedy, suicides and stories of guard dogs jumping out of third floor windows to escape what could be a demonic presence! I know, I know hardly what I wanted to a) know or b) have stuck in my head as I continued to watch either!

Moving (swiftly) on, and it turns out there have been an uncanny number of deaths in the house over the years - including a documented suicide. Now, as much as things like this are not uncommon (as depressed people looking to make a final statement are known to do such things in such places) this revealing documentary sheds more light on who it was and why (possibly) they felt the need to do what they did.

And so we watch as Brian and his team take ahold of the intimidating task of renovating the historic mansion. And wouldn't you believe it some of the workers begin to report supernatural occurrences! From sightings of apparitions, whispering voices and peculiar odors. Mind you, the latter could just be a built up collection of hard-working sweat, but what do I know?!

Anyway, when some members of the team start to fall ill and an unexplained fire threatens the projects completion, Brian begins to question the true nature of the castle and the meaning behind these strange events. Indeed, he seeks out the most famous poet in history for answers, Dante Alighieri and his novel Inferno.

And what he uncovers is unexpected - and may well just hold the answer to the one question that we all are seeking; as viewers! So, if that hasn't enticed you enough to come and watch this ghost story unfold, well, you must not like a good old-fashioned chiller, my friends! This is a Widescreen Presentations (2.35:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
