'The Black Waters of Echo's Pond' [Blu-ray]
(Robert Patrick, Danielle Harris, Electra Avellan, et al / DVD / R / (2009) 2013 / Anchor Bay Entertainment)

Overview: During a Turkish archeological dig early last century, an ancient board game said to have entertained demons was unearthed. Now nearly 90 years later, a group of vacationing friends discover the game hidden in an old house on a remote Maine island.

DVD Verdict: Having sat in the vaults since 2009, being released today might well have spelt distain for this film from a waiting audience. The again, and let's be totally honest, who amongst even knew this had been filmed back then and was coming out anyway?!

That in mind, this movie can now be treated as a "new" movie to come straight-to-DVD and feature not only Robert Patrick ('T2') but the always-lovely, seductive, Scream Queen scamp herself, Danielle Harris ('Halloween 4 + 5').

And, as fully expected, 'The Black Waters of Echo's Pond' is shot well, contains obvious high end production values, but is still a B-movie for all it's little heart is worth. The sets look real and due to the subject matter the whole film has this deliberate foreboding feel to it.

As for the acting, well, it's rather good, in truth! The lovely, sexy and talented Danielle Harris steals the show, of course, but the others play their collective roles just perfectly also.

The special effects are rather good too. The demonic eyes and teeth used in this film are very realistic and look terrifying once they are set into a darkened atmosphere. The blood and gore levels are also nice and there's plenty of carnage to go around; for those looking/hoping for some!

But, if you're looking for a clean ending, one that makes you turn the film off and be content well that ain't gonna happen here, sorry! I won't, obviously tell you exactly what occurs, but just know you will not be overly happy; or maybe you will! Anyway, this didn't necessarily ruin the movie for me, but I would have enjoyed it more if explanation had been given; that's all. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
