'The Story of the Jews with Simon Schama'
(Simon Schama / DVD / NR / 2014 / PBS)

Overview: Simon Schama presents this epic series exploring the extraordinary story of the Jewish experience from ancient times to the present day.

DVD Verdict: Telling it like it is, given the depth that this 2-DVD set goes to, you will quickly learn that 'The story of the Jews' is a very historical program/documentary and yet at the same time does not stray beyond being contemporary at any given juncture.

It is a wholly compelling film brought to us by Simon Schama, and one that features distinctiveness and difference, separation and isolation, tolerance and prejudice.

Indeed, you might have caught this show before, because 'The Story of the Jews' was a five-part series originally produced for the BBC in 2013. Anyway, whether you did or you didn't, Historian Simon Schama explores the Jewish experience, spanning over 4,000 years.

From the Ancient Israelites and the origin of the Hebrew bible to the very impact the Jewish people are having today in creating the world we all live in. In fact, let's just say from culture, to science to entertainment, most everything is dissected, inspected and brought forth for you yourself to determine the facts on.

In closing, it is one of the best documentaries I have seen with excellent photography, music and a narrator unmatched in Simon Schama. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
